As long as it's someone who has been taught to shoot by Monk - because they'd be sure to miss. <laugh>

If we have a bad day at the office once in a blue moon like this then i will be well happy with our progress and as an added bonus we never slipped out of the top half and remain where we were before the Chelsea match <ok> we could be qpr, Leicester or Burnley where we would have something to be concerned about but we are nowhere near their plight or look like we will ever be <ok>

We were hammered by a superior team playing to character yesterday. Chelsea showed their pedigree while making us look like chumps.

They were scalpel sharp all game but we were lacklustre with no composure, confidence or desire giving the game up as lost after only 20 minutes. Seeing us this way was painful and was far more disappointing than the final score for me.

We have a problem, a big problem, in our game. It's not new, it's essentially the same now under Monk as it was under Laudrup. Its not changed at all but it has not been dealt with and was sorely highlighted yesterday.

This problem is obvious, we've all seen it and many have mentioned it and it is that we have no souls ahead of or outside of our centre backs who can tackle effectively, its as simple as that.

Our midfield is over-loaded with 'pretty', who in defence fill passing lanes while passively harassing the opposition attack into slowing down or into congested areas of the pitch, while pointing a lot.

Our passive defensive strategy relies too heavily on expecting opposition mistakes or inadequacies to break up an attack. We do need to be far more 'aggressive' in the midfield particularly when the opposition is in possession.

Standing off in defence doesn't work for us as we do not have a dominant back-line to fall back on. To compensate for our naturally passive players we NEED, WANT, someone who can tackle in midfield, win the ball back and stop attacks dead before they become dangerous.

We haven't had such a player since Joe Allen so my script to cure our problem is simple: for the love of Rog this January buy a good fekkin Defensive Midfielder, preferably with size 12 boots who can compliment our pretty football with some ugly, hard tackling break up play and defence. Its important if we want to remain a top ten side and essential if we want to be more.

Now all we need to do is stay in the top half and win the League Cup,and then go into Europe, just as we did under Laudrup. Oh,wait a minute, the League Cup,um,well,uh,um... <laugh>

My brief take on yesterday is we were totally outclassed by a beter side. I believe GM team selection was poor and basically handed the centre midfield area to Chelsea That along with a lot of bad performances led to the hammering. What I was more disappointed with was the way we seemed to give up I can take a bad performance but there was a lot more effort need from a lot of players. Carroll and Siggy worked hard in all fairness but were on their own and outclassed. Some were say we were better second half that was because Chelsea didnt need t try as the game was won.

The one thing that really pissed me right off was that our captain Williams trudged back in to position after the 3rd went in with his shoulders slumped forward like a 11 year old boy. He is our captain, the suposed leader of men and i expect him to be geeing the others up not sulking.

If i have learned anything from that I dont think our squad is strong enough. The result isnt the end of the world as long as GM and the players learn from it.

I have no particular beef with you but your comments about LIBERTARIAN are in my opinion unwarranted.
For many, Monk's fall from grace started in the Sousa era and continued under Rodgers and Laudrup.
Your comment was prompted by a follow on from a comment I made about turning down Koeman, look at the league table.
In Garry Monk you see a stalwart of Swansea City who is having some success as a rookie manager, I see a decent Championship standard player who regularly fell out with other players, fell out with managers, seems unable to deal positively with bigger egos, often places blame on others and has undermined six years of football development.
At the Liberty, he and the team will get my unerring support but, away from the game, reality kicks in.

From your comments over time I know you'll agree that everyone has the right to express an opinion, on this I (and others) disagree with yours - that's all, it's a difference of opinion.
Please don't emulate one poster on here who insults others and sets himself up as the only person in the world to understand football.

Rant over, as said earlier - my yesterday started bad and got worse.[/QUOTE]
Very well written Bob and I agree completely. Monk IS a gay!!!!

Both physically and mentally. We need some strong leaders in our team.

    True
Question - Is Federico a leader? He doesn't seem to be, more Amat than Ashley or is it a case of new boy keeping his head down? Literally in some instances!)
In some ways he could be a successor to the great man as a defender but maybe not as a captain.

I think the time is fast approaching for a Fernandez and Amat pairing.
But what we really need is a Morgan Schneiderling type midfielder.

Britton in his prime was our retriever of the ball, but that part of his game has diminished, and with no Ferrie Bodde in the midfield we have lost our control of games, selling Joe Allen didn't help either, and when Britton retires we will be very average in the midfield, it's time to strengthen there, we need a serious midfield general, but I have been saying this for a number of seasons now, it's one of the reasons why we don't keep the ball like we used to.............<ok>

Simple question lads. Buy back Joe? He isn't exactly liked up in Liverpool.

Ki, Joe, Tom, Gylfi, Grimes, Emnes, Jonjo (I know) and Leon. We'd have some serious depth then.

    Now I'm offended. <laugh>

Not for me. Joe hasn't exactly been brilliant at Liverpool but I'd buy Carroll if possible. Talk of buying players immediately after a thrashing from the best side in the country (probably third best in Europe actually) isn't advisable imo. Not sure we need to buy in January apart from a striker. When the Summer comes then probably yes.

    Morgan Schneiderling - Again, true.
And it has been said for a couple or three seasons.

Not sure about Fernandez and Amat pairing they seem to be very similar. TBH I'd be happier if we had a player in the back four who could jump.
