So "history" is banned in your life then,eh? Counts for nothing? Jeez. Hope no-one mentions the war.

"History" is what we are all about, and you wouldn't be here but for the historical contact between your parents.

    Oh,and I'm not offended.

Lol. Didn't say history wasn't important in my life or in terms of world events, but I was talking about the Swans. Talking about the past is fine but it isn't very constructive in the debate about where we are going. The past is set in stone but the future isn't. Bit like Leeds fans going on about how much they've won in the glory days when they may well be relegated this season.

I liked Laudrup a lot but he isn't going to solve any of our problems now and I find the debate about where we go from here much more interesting. Just me I suppose. :emoticon-0109-kiss:

You had me worried for a moment.

Don't fall into the trap of trying to disregard the "history" of ex manager's,mainly Laudrup,or ex player's.
They were important and should not be air brushed away.

There are some who post here, and their agenda is to disparage the likes of Martinez,Rodgers and Laudrup,at any opportunity.
It won't happen on my watch, and it shouldn't on yours either. You sound too sensible to follow the mob.

This could also be attributed to those who belittle Monk's achievements either as our captain or his achievements as manager to date.

After all, Monk has achieved more than Laudrup has at Swansea :emoticon-0116-evilg

:emoticon-0140-rofl: Sensible?? Tell Mr Miggins, he thinks I'm a loony. <laugh>

To be clear, I'm not airbrushing because as a long time supporter I'm proud of our journey but personally I don't find looking back that helpful or interesting. What gets my attention is our journey ahead and our fans' views on where we go from here.

    Libertarian - have we won a cup when I wasn't looking? <devil>

Then you clearly have no sense of history.

Your "won a cup" comment is a tad confusing.

Monk achieved a lot as a player with The Swans',was a good captain, and was much respected.

His managerial achievements to date are zero. Laudrup,on the other hand... <laugh>

Lib - we all get it; you think Laudrup was treated badly and you have a point - but why all the smileys? by no means smiley king You seem to be reveling in our misfortune and I find that hard to swallow from a fellow Swan.

I also get it that you don't like Garry Monk and have a hard on for Laudrup but get behind the team ffs! a big difference between not rating an individual and not supporting the team The great Dane is not our manager any more and, as grateful as I am for everything he achieved with us (arguably our most successful manager and a thoroughly decent guy), you are but there are some, one in particular who take every opportunity to decry his achievements Monk is our manager now - a rookie on a very steep learning curve, but cannot fault his passion or commitment - passion & commitment only go so far - the problem many have with Monk is that he keeps making the same blunders. No one is epceting perfection but how many times have we seen a team give a good performance one week only to be messed around in selection the next because Monk has 'rested' players at a time we are playing on one or two competitions? How often have his substitutions come too late or have been incomprehensible? These are things fans have every right to talk about. and we should all support him we do, at games, where it matters. Do you really think all this chanting his name in the second half yesterday went away from the ground with love in their hearts and praise for Monk? !

I have been unhappy with many decisions over the 40 years I have been following the Swans, but I have never let that diminish my support for the team being critical doesn't diminish support - I will turn up and shout myself hoarse regardless of who is in charge ditto, whether I like them or not!

Laudrup is part of our glorious past - Monk is our present and future so, as in the words of Disney's Frozen, 'Let it go!' (Reminiscent of Reading singing Glee sones!) United we stand, divided we fall, and I am getting the distinct impression that you would be extremely happy if Monk fails spectacularly and I find that very hard to take! Wanting better isn't the same as wanting someone to fail, but watching something you love being shafted by incompetence or inexperience doesn't alter the hurt felt.

We all have our favourites, and all get star struck now and again; I couldn't believe it when I heard that the legend that is Michael Laudrup was to manage our 'little old' Swansea, but also acknowledged the fact that he had taken us as far as he wanted to - Monk will never have that star quality, but he is honest, sincere and lives and breathes Swansea City yet if he were offered the job of taking over from Brendon he'd be gone in a heartbeat- today's defeat will hurt him far more than it hurts us I really doubt that - there are fans who have supported the Swans for more than 60 years who will but distraught - Monk will get annoyed, be tough in training for a day or two, criticise individuals, look for someone else to shoulder the blame and make the same mistakes again then he'll pick up his cheque at the end of the month and he will do his utmost to make sure this afternoons abject performance won't be repeated. I, for one, will be right behind him and will be vocal in my support ditto- he may be a rookie, but he is our rookie! I trust tha opinion will remain when we hit 12th in the league.

I want him to succeed, ditto - no one wants to see him fail because that's not good for the Swans, but Garry Monk isn't the Swans just as Roberto wasn't (despite his pronouncements of undying love for the club) will support him in his attempts to succeed, and also stick by him if things turn to **** - today we were beaten by an exceptional team of footballers but wonder if the result would have been any different if we had had £600,000,000 worth of talent on the pitch as well! ;) Being beaten by the better team or even the luckier team is one thing - to put out a side that is beaten before the whistle is another all together.

So in conclusion Lib - I understand your pain, Laudrup was a bit of a hunk so appreciate your man crush, (are you suggesting young Garry is a bit of mingler?) but please also cut Garry a bit of slack and support the team - maybe use the smileys when we win, there are some on here who are far more deserving of that comment than this poster and use less of them when we lose and acknowledge the fact that Monk is still on a steep learning curve, acknowledging he's on a steep learning curve is fine as ,long as he is learning, but when the seen are he isn't, then what? Accept he's a rookie, no problem but why leave him without an experienced mentor? will make mistakes, and keep making the same ones but has the best interest of our club at heart! No doubt about, so do we all. [/QUOTE]

I have no particular beef with you but your comments about LIBERTARIAN are in my opinion unwarranted.
For many, Monk's fall from grace started in the Sousa era and continued under Rodgers and Laudrup.
Your comment was prompted by a follow on from a comment I made about turning down Koeman, look at the league table.
In Garry Monk you see a stalwart of Swansea City who is having some success as a rookie manager, I see a decent Championship standard player who regularly fell out with other players, fell out with managers, seems unable to deal positively with bigger egos, often places blame on others and has undermined six years of football development.
At the Liberty, he and the team will get my unerring support but, away from the game, reality kicks in.

From your comments over time I know you'll agree that everyone has the right to express an opinion, on this I (and others) disagree with yours - that's all, it's a difference of opinion.
Please don't emulate one poster on here who insults others and sets himself up as the only person in the world to understand football.

Rant over, as said earlier - my yesterday started bad and got worse.

<sorry> Libertarian my "Have we won a cup when I wasn't looking" was in response to Valley's strange comment about Monk achieving more than Laudrup. Got my posters wrong.

You would think we are the only team that was hammered by the no1 team <doh> well look again <ok> Monk has had so far the best season in the top flight than any other manager, We have been in the top half all season gaining our highest points total at this stage by anyone, Take a look who took us to our lowest position since we have been here and that speaks volumes...there is no comparison however you try to manipulate results...
