Cause they're out of fashion, good for nostalgic purposes and nothing else. Monty Python just look like a bunch of silly old men stuck in the past. I'm a huge Eddie Izzard fan and will watch his old stand up routines with pleasure. Saw him on the telly the other night and he was dreadful. Vic & Bob's new sitcom is an abomination. Comedians are like stars, they have their moment then they die out. Why? I think I just grow weary of their style and technique.
I watched an old episode of Dave Allen the other week and thought it was the funniest thing I have seen on TV for yonks..
Which is why I specifically titled the thread 'modern comedians' mate. The old fellas, like Les Dawson, remained humorous or, at worst, you didn't want to kill them. For the record, I'd have pickaxed Paul Whitehouse in the face from day one. Comedians rarely make me laugh with jokes on a stage, I could count on one hand the ones who I would pay to watch and one of those is a stage show rather than a stand up routine. I watched that quiz of the year thing with David Mitchell and some goofy looking black kid in glasses as one of the teams, I'm convinced the TV channels are deliberately trying to spoil Xmas for everybody now.
For my sins, I am a massive fan of Count Arthur Strong. The formats cliched, but the characterizations are brilliant.
