I would apply that maxim to changing managers, as well, though you wouldn't. Slater and Jímenez are looking better every week, but as I understand it they had run out of cash (or cash they were willing to put into Charlton), and couldn't or wouldn't carry on. You look at the people who have taken over English clubs and most of them are revolting specimens. The only hope is if the current owner, who wished to opt out, has enough money to fund the club for a long time while he carefully researches each offer until he finds the right person or group. It seems S & J were not in that position..
I must eat some humble pie and say I was totally wrong about the Belgians. I still think that the Chuckle Brothers were bad news, but the Belgians are showing you how not to run a Football Club. I owe posters like Bitter/ Eddie an Apology.
I have heard, and this can be supported by the absence of any evidence to the contrary that Slater and Jimi had the funds to take this club forward. Kevin Cash was still interested but had issues with contracts, and existing debtors. Slater was concerned that some of our staff were still being paid premiership wages despite being a third tier club. Not surprisingly those that dropped us down should also take the hit. The club was struggling and to make it viable they had to go. That is where the problem really started. I wonder if all the people that were so enraged at the recent 'Katriengate' scandal broke, are aware that they have been taken for mugs and have been lied too by their own cyber mates. There was never a chance that this club would go into liquidation, never a chance that money would run out under Slater and Jimi, Slater wanted to run the club with the best staff for the money and not be bullied by Muzza and the Lifers. In the end the lifers campaign of bullshit and lies won, and Slater felt it wasn't worth it (incidentally the same phrase Curbishley used) he would take a holiday. Dick P I implore you to come back, don't be a martyr to the cause of the trust, they are just as devious and slippery as Katrien and Roland and they are supposed to be 'proper Charlton'.
I think a few things need to be clarified - 1) the chuckle bros. were not to blame for our financial position, neither Slater or Jimi were rich enough to own a football club, Kevin Cash was the money man and he lost interest in Charlton 12 months after taking a large shareholding. Slater's relationship with Cash was exactly the same as the Witch's with the Douche. 2) the club was NOT near administration when the Douche took over... the club was sold for £15m to the Douche, if it had gone into Administration they the Administrator would have sold it for a lot less so why would the old owners have done this? Wyn Grant keeps peddling the Administration line. he may be a fine journalist but he is no accountant. 3) Chuckle bros wanted to sell to the American billionaire but they realised that he was a time waster and he was just using us for some (quite expensive) PR, their fall back position was the Douche... unfortunately for us. I said at the time when the Douche took over that something was wrong in the state of Denmark and so this has proved, they talk a lot about the off pitch investment but I am told that these were paid for by the sale of Kermit and Stephens. In talking to the people involved with the youth set up I understand that they do not see any increased investment since the Douche has taken over and in fact I know of at least one youth player who may refuse a pro contract because he is so worried about the club's future, this kid will have absolutely no problem in finding another league club and probably at a club in a higher league than ours.
There is only one thing to wish for. Like us you need to wish for three teams to be poorerer than you. We are both in luck, Blackpool, Millwall and Rotherham are all much worse than either of us. Luckily 42 points will be enough this year. In terms of who has the worst owner you are a long way behind us.
It all boils down to the same thing this club is being weighed down by a large turd - Richard Murray, it is his greed that is killing this club. What annoys me most is that his flying monkeys over on CL and VoTv will support Muzza . They lied for him, got rid of of a board for him and they have the brass neck to accuse Katrien of lying. They know he won't let go and there's something in it for them if Muzza hangs around. Supporters trust and much of CL are just in with Murray and are the real slags. Judas bastards
Early days for us, Chippy. We've only had Roland for a year, how long have you had your owner? Typical- I'd say Richard Murray has as much influence over Roland's decisions as the Sam Bartram statue.
16 months now.. But hopefully the fl will signal the beginning of the end this week by kicking Cellino out of our club till his criminal conviction is spent (March). If they do, he is finished as he has two much more serious cases hanging over him and they will see him gone for good. I a.
