Not sure if this was posted, but is pretty interesting.. "Rudy Gestede is fit to play but IS NOT IN in the Blackburn squad to face Wigan tomorrow. Sky sources have told us this is because of interest from Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace and Hull. Steve Bruce has said that Hull were keen on him but any move to East Yorkshire is a non-starter because the fee Blackburn are demanding was too high."
That's funny - certain reactions involve speeding mine up considerably. After a hot curry, for instance. Completely agree, especially with the bit I've highlighted. His footwork before diving for the top corners is poor - technically Harper is much better at that, even though he's less agile.
Whoa Whoa! hold the boat! McGregor is very reliable!!!!, you are either taking the piss or your all part of some McGregor cult! He is in no way Reiable, if I cast my mind back to...only last week, not reliable at all, Infact if I look at the fixtures this season and look at the games he's largely cost us in, He's probably lost us 6 or 9pts in fairness, he is one of the least reliable players on the pitch and has temper issue.
I would say his decisions to come off his line are one of his biggest weaknesses. Off the top of my head in the past few games, West Brom away and Sunderland away, he made mistakes, either through communication or decision making in relation to coming off his line which costs us goals on both occasions.
Listen, I'm a goalkeeper, I know what to look for in a good goalkeeper and I can tell you with confidence that McGregor is doing just fine. His reactions are great, his distribution reaches it's intended target (usually Elmo) 99% of the time. As Wilson said, he perhaps doesn't come for crosses as much, which is a shame given the amount of protection keepers get from refs these days. He was prone to letting in long range shots, but he seems to be working on his positioning and he pulled off two cracking saves against Everton. Letting in a goal doesn't make him a bad keeper, I mean he can't save them all, if he did he wouldn't be playing for us! I've watched him probably more than any other player and he rarely makes a gaff, he went through a rough patch earlier in the season but he's bounced back, which is the sign of a good player. It's easy to criticise a player when it looks like they're doing badly (even though he hasn't looked bad at all) but people are often quick to forget the good performances that have helped us win points. It's difficult with goalkeepers, but I see no reason why we should be looking to replace a very highly rated keeper who's playing in an underperforming side.
I understand you are a GK, but if I were you I'd take more time studying keepers such as Ben Foster, Adryan, Fraser Forster, Begovic etc....all play for small teams but are quality Gk's.....who knows it might make you a better GK! I would largely blame McGregor for the reason we lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup final, please watch some of the highlights and try and convince me that not 1 of them saves was down to a GK error
McGregor is hot headed, rash and unpredictable. He's good enough at keeping the ball out the net but he does some bloody stupid things and I'd consider him the weak link in our squad. Not good enough IMO but the best we have.
Agree Massively with this, I was maybe off hand blaming his reactions, maybe I should of said quick decisions that he has to make are bad! but yes agree that he is the best we've got at the moment, not if Harper was 2 years younger though!
Both of those goals were absolutely, entirely, 100% the defender's fault. Elmo was ****ing stupid and Curtis made a fairly standard mistake. McGregor does have a couple of issues but none of them are the things you are talking about. You will not find a keeper as good as him for the sort of price we paid and to improve on that area would be a waste of money that could otherwise be spent on the striker, enforcer, and creative midfielder which we really need.
Elmo and Davies both made mistakes without a doubt. But that doesn't make Mcgregor blameless in either situation. Particularly the Sunderland one, Davies could have cleared it but opted (wrongly) to block Johnson instead. At that point, Mcgregor was favourite and could have cleared it, he opted to stay on his line, wait for Johnson to get past Davies before coming out and giving him the easy decision of going round him. I think that was poor decision making by Mcgregor, regardless of what Davies should have done. He has been better of late, as early season I was a big critic. His shot-stopping has been good, highlighted by his excellent penalty record, but I would say his decision making, not coming for crosses and his positioning for long range shots (particularly free kicks) could all do with improvement.
McGregor is ok but falls into the bracket of he has no real competition , I would say if we stayed up we could see a new number one next season or at least somebody to give him some real competition
Linked on News Now with Salah and Lennon. Both be great signings if there's anything in it - also a centre forward please!
So we currently have four wingers available but (arguably) one striker. Let's sign two wingers then... Lazy journalism I suspect, although I'd still love us to get Salah. And if Bruce insists on playing wingers up front, Salah could do better there than any of ours.
both better than what we got , but its not where our weaknesses are a big feller up top (as any of our wingers should be capable of supporting such a player temporarily )and someone who can do what Ramirez was supposed to do. Its frustrating but we arn't far away from a decent squad on paper - we would defo be league leaders in a hospital league :/
It's not only Strikers we need. Our midfield is in dire need of revitalising, so hopefully Bruce can move on some of our dead wood, i.e.: Aluko, Sagbo, for decent compensation
