Match Day Thread Newcastle vs Southampton 17.01.2015

The character and spirit of the squad is nothing short of phenomenal. Travelling from Manchester to Ipswich and onto Newcastle in a week and winning all 3, losing 3 of our best players to injury in the process. So proud tonight.

 

Is this really my Southampton, the one that has given me 40 years of lows and lowers. When they were rubbish, they were my rubbish, now they are great, they are everyone's great!

Could be really fun to watch here...seems like Elia understands that this is his chance to turn what had been a flagging career around, and on today's evidence he clearly intends to make the most of it.

 

Elia just interviewed..looks tiny next to Fonte. Comes over as a lovely humble lad...grateful to Koeman for believing in him...hence his hug for Ron after the first goal. .

 

unbelievable. Got in from work and caught some of 2nd half in between tending to little man. Amazing how we can keep grinding out the difficult results. So proud, really pleased reed is taking his opportunity.

Thought we made it very difficult for ourselves in the last 10 mins., but there must be times when you've just got to dig in, stand up and be counted and this Saints side is very capable of doing that.

I am in shock still! Can't stop randomly yelling. What a team we have now. Sheer class all over the park. I can honestly say I never thought I would see a Southampton team this good in my entire life.

 

Harry reed is going to be a hell of a player. And I thought cork was really classy when he came on

 

Btw - thought Gardos looked more than capable once again (not having it that the goal was his mistake).

 

I'd have to agree with this and I've been support the lads for a long, long time.

 

We are doing this with the likes of Alderweireld, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Mane and Rodriguez out. Yoshida(and Mayuka) away. (Boruc, Ramirez and Osvaldo out on loan). What a squad we have now.

 

As Tiss says, good teams still win in close games and Saints must be considered a good team now.

 

I love the idea of Osvaldorama wandering around randomly yelling at confused people in the street. I imagine the actual Osvaldo does much the same in real life.

 

But he'd also head butt them.

 

Great performance yet again, I thought the ref had a very good game also, especially turning down the last minute penalty claim.

 

It did appear to be Gardos at fault but I'm not sure Forster made the call? Had that been Shilton or Niemi they would have screamed for the ball and got it.
