He's shown flashes of brilliance. Fantastic in the West Ham game when he scored and hit the post with a beautiful shot and then very good against Everton. He's one of those players that doesn't really do anything when the ball isn't at his feet but when it is you expect something special. He's lightweight and needs a player like Jelavic up top with him and also needs some time to adapt to the Prem. He may go on to be a very good player for us but he needs a good run of games so this injury really isn't helpful. In both of our situations I think I'd rather have Defoe as he offers pretty much guaranteed goals but for a team higher up the table Hernandez is probably better as he has a lot of potential at a reasonably young age.

That's pretty detailed and answered my follow ups, cheers fella. I wanted us to sign him but was never going to happen the way were spending in the summer. I wouldn't close escape or anything. Still plenty of time for the lad to prove his worth for you.

Yeah I was, in a round about way, simply agreeing, and if we don't start finding a way to score goals soon you may get your wish, I think not though, I still have faith in Brucey.

Reportedly 10 clubs in for him. Brucie and Pardew have admitted they tried. We're very lucky on two things. 1. Gus and Defoe have a preexisting relationship and 2. Jozy Altidore!<laugh> **** or not he's worth a lot in commercial value and was a good deal breaker in getting Defoe to the table. It's been reported that Jozy has signed a contract worth upto $30 million over 5 years. <yikes>

Sometimes a transfer just falls into place. This was complicated but went without a hitch.

Defoe cleared to play. But Sunderland have some very interesting games coming up.

Reading reports from Toronto it does look like Defoe has an attitude issue. Is this just his
pension fund ? A massive gamble on massive wages by the Mackems.

As for Altidore, it should be much easier for him in the MLS.

Stop digging, it's a great signing and you know it.

Toronto FC have just confirmed the signing of Jozy Altidore.

That attitude problem gave him ten years at spurs in where he saw the squad evolve multiple times meaning he's played with many many players without a problem. Chance are he just missed English football, he's admitted such in his first Sunderland interview.

You sir continue clutch over this transfer

    Denial
Denial is a coping mechanism that gives you time to adjust to distressing situations — but staying in denial can interfere with treatment or your ability to tackle challenges. If you're in denial, you're trying to protect yourself by refusing to accept the truth about something that's happening in your life.

Just admit it. You wanted him. Nowt wrong with that. <ok>

The French call the English "Les Rosbifs" (the roast beefs) wheras we call them "the frogs".
I've observed many French making fun of Chinese with the 'slanty eye' gestures, political correctness is less applied this side of the channel.
They sometimes refer to the corner shop as the "Marché Arabe" (Arab Market)
Finally a real story from one of my colleagues; She went to see an elderly French lady about renting an appartment in Lyon. My colleague is a white American by the way. The lady was delighted to offer her the rental agreement with the words, "The person who came to see me before you was black and we have too many of them here already! Some of them are light coloured but he was very black!"
    A generation gap perhaps?
37% of French people in a recent poll openly declared themselves to be racist.

All I have to do is flip your two sentences upside down to ridicule it...

Oh soz, I didnt mean it quite like that, or actually, I didn't mean to get a reaction like that. Someone, you I thought, had made a comment about swapping two players of similar value/cost whatever and one is way better. Thats really preaching to the converted on here. We loved Altidore, we wanted to worship him, but honestly he looked as bad for us 7 years ago as he has done for you recently. Seems such a shame, he's not a bad lad, just seems a little lacking for a striker. Im sure we can agree on that?

Cost wise sure, hes similar I imagine (we never know these things, its all speculation) as Hernandez but Abel is needing time to adjust to the English game, plus hes injured. I still believe he was a sound buy and will come good.

Defoe is of course a great striker, or at least he was. Bit of a gamble to see if he can still cut it in the English PL, but one well worth it Id say and honestly, I'm jealous you've got him. He is still costing you a fortune every week for 3 1/2 years which ever way you look at it.

To get the best out of him though, you need a creative midfielder, which you do not have at the mo. Wickham might be that player at some point but he aint there yet.

What formation do you think you'll go with? 4-4-2? Who going to be his strike partner? Plus 4-4-2 hasnt been that great for you has it? If you play him as a lone striker, yes I think he can bang them in, providing he gets the ball, and therein lays the problem for you with your current team.

Defoe is a great signing, but wasn't obviously to rich for us and to big a gamble for unestablished club like our.

Re Hernandez. He has looked very good in spits and spurts. But just can't get a run of games together with Jelavic. I've never heard of this £5m release clause though?

Wasn't me fella. I'm not that flippant. Though they're similar in value that's where it's stops as far as I'm concerned. Very different players, Jozy will flurish i'm sure with natural wingers as suppose to our inverted ones..

We won't change formation fella. We'll be sticking with the 433 that's failing us.

Defoe has 1 goal in his last 19 Premier League games, Hernandez has 3 in his last 13. They're also his first ever 13 in English football.

Some are a little too hasty to write off our players. As stated above, Defoe is not quite the 'guaranteed goals' you might think and when his contract ends he'll be a few months off turning 36. Even if Hernandez flops he'll have sell on value.

    The grass is always greener...
