Michael Keating, Benedict Cucumberpatch and Eddie Redmayne should be given an Oscar each. Their individual performances were exemplary. Shame two of them have to lose. Mind you, Peter O'Toole should have got one for Lawrence of Arabia so you never can tell. And Meryl Streep, 19th nomination is absolutely incredible.
The last time I thought the right film won best picture was in 2006, when The Departed won. We'll have to agree to disagree here, that's a ridiculous statement.
One would think that Americans would watch this crap then, instead everyone here saw Guardians of the Galaxy.
I liked it. I think though it would have been immensely better if it had been a character study of Quill with no one else having any real significant part in the film. Perhaps Quill is trapped on his ship floating out into space and we get 2 hours of him goofing off before he dies/rescued. Sort of a version of Firefly's "Out of Gas" episode if you have seen it. Quill was just the best part of the movie and the rest of the characters simply took up to much time that could have been about Quill. I thought Frank, Horns or Only Lovers Left Alive were the best movies I saw this year. In general I thought it was a pretty **** year for movies.
