    $115,000 a week <yikes>

MLS sources told ESPN's ‎Marc Stein that Altidore has received a five-year deal from Toronto in the $30 million range, putting him on a level with a select few in the league such as Seattle's Clint Dempsey, Altidore's new Toronto teammate Michael Bradley and top foreigners like New York City FC's David Villa and Frank Lampard, Orlando SC's Kaka and L.A. Galaxy-bound Steven Gerrard.

Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko told the MLS club's official website: "Our top priority is building a winning club with players that are committed to the TFC vision. Jozy is a special player, and checks off all of the boxes that we look for in a player. We are excited to finalise this deal and bring him to Toronto FC.

"It became clear that a return for Jermain to the English Premier League was going to be in the best interests of both sides. We'd like to thank Jermain for his contributions to Toronto FC and wish him well."

Altidore arrived in Toronto on Thursday from England, where he spent an unsuccessful 18th-month stint with Sunderland.

The swap deal between the clubs was agreed on earlier in the week, but the deal appeared to hit a snag on Wednesday, with the 25-year-old Altidore at the mercy of MLS's convoluted allocation process.

The New York Red Bulls, Altidore's first pro team, reportedly made a late, league-backed play for their former star. But that ultimately fell though, according to reports, paving the way for TFC to sign the player.

Altidore managed just one goal in 42 league appearances for Sunderland, which bought his rights from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar in 2013 for just under $10 million.

But Altidore has 25 goals in 76 games for the U.S., and in his previous MLS stint scored 15 times in 37 matches before being sold to Spain's Villarreal in 2008, when he was just 18.

Altidore will be added to the national team's roster for a Jan. 28 friendly in Chile. He is now reunited with international teammate Michael Bradley at Toronto FC, which last failed to qualify for the MLS playoffs for a record eighth consecutive season.

Great signing for you guys, all you need now is to hope GP starts getting the team to push forward and support him more. I don't see massive problems with your defence to be honest, its far from perfect but I'd put it as decent for a mid-table or lower mid-table side. Up front was the issue and Defoe should hopefully sort that.

    Cannot stand Collymore

GUS POYET has admitted Jozy Altidore's departure to Toronto FC helped ensure that Jermain Defoe arrived at Sunderland as part of a "perfect deal".

Altidore scored just one goal in 42 Premier League appearances for the Black Cats, a wretched record that followed a similar failure with Hull City.

On the one hand, Altidore's switch to Toronto helped persuade the Canadian club to release Defoe despite the former England international having moved to the MLS as their marquee signing.

And as a further benefit, Poyet has also been able to engineer the departure of a player who could well have become an unsettling presence in the second half of the season.

Poyet said: "With all respect to Jozy, it is the perfect deal, and I'm a believer that those perfect deals do not happen very often.

"The Jozy situation was simple. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for him for whatever reason. Everyone has an opinion on that. I've got mine, but I will keep it for me.

"He's going to go back home as a very, very important player, and as a captain of the national team. On the other hand, we are getting a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

"It was a good option for everybody, and I think everybody is happy."

Well I certainly am, it's a win, win for me. Put Defoe in some of the situations Josy found himself in and we'd probably 4 to 6 points better off by now.
