See the bigger picture would you. If builder told you he hadn't bothered to fix your collapsing roof, but hey good news, he put a new battery in your TV remote for you... would you commend him for his good work and be happy he fixed something?
Each signing we make should be looked at on its individual merits. This seems to be a good youth signing for the club. Good, we need to keep bringing in top youth players regardless of what is happening with the first team. A good stream of young players developing and fighting to make it at the club is healthy for our future and sustainability. I think people are annoyed at us having not added a CB or DM yet and are allowing that to cloud there perception.
Doens't cloud my perception in the slightest. I don't care about signing youngsters until we've signed first teamers. Signing youngsters hasn't pushed us onto being title chasers for over a decade.
Surely you can see why it's a positive thing for the future and sustainability of the club to have a strong youth setup? You say it doesn't cloud your perception but then say you don't care about anything else until first team players get signed... So your saying it is changing the way you perceive the signing of the youth player? Aka your perception is clouded?
The bigger picture is that we signed an interesting prospect for the future. That's what people should be focusing on. There's no negative's here. Regardless of wether we still need an immediate improvement on Flamini.
My point is they aren't mutually exclusive... there is no reason to take each signing on it's individual merits other than because you've said so a few posts earlier. Not agreeing with you doesn't mean I've 'clouded' my judgement. It's because I don't agree with you and I don't care about signing youngsters. The ethos of this whole club and so many fans is, "don't worry, we'll be great soon".
Technically, Coquelin looks like an improvement on Flamini! What we need is an improvement on Coquelin...now!
So you don't want to take individual signings on there own merits? So Sanchez doesn't count as a good signing because we didn't sign a CB? Of course each signing has to be looked at by its own merits and the context of the signing. Signing this youth player has no effect on who we add to the first team. It is just a stand alone positive move by the club. We need to have a good youth setup and all the top clubs try to bring in the top young talent.
If there was actually a sign that signing youngsters was making us better then I'd be all for it. But it hasn't happened. Ergo I don't care about then. Woo hoo... Pennant will be amazing! Woo hoo... Vela will be amazing for us! Woo hoo... Campbell will be amazing for us! Woo hoo... Senderos is the next Adams! Woo hoo... Merida will be amazing for us! Woo hoo...Reyes will be amazing for us! Woo hoo... Emmanuel-Thomas will be amazing for us! Woo hoo... Bentley is the next Beckham! Screw that... the one time it works, there are 10 times it doesn't. We NEED first team players.
Of course not all young players will make it, but by having a wealth of talent fighting to make it you get the gems come through. All top teams invest heavily in signing youth talent and keeping there youth teams stocked. Not sure why you keep going on about needing first team players, signing this kid isn't going to have an effect on that.
What are you talking about? I'm not moaning about signing Bielik. I'm moaning we haven't signed who we NEED to sign. Signing a youngster doesn't change the fact that it's criminal we don't have the required first teamers.
10 years of mediocrity means I don't care about youngsters. I'm ambivalent. I'm not against it or for it... signing them has proven to have had little to no impact on our fortunes of being title chasers.
You are arguing against the point that people should be pleased rather than pissed off with this signing. That's the original point raised by thebear and myself that you replied to and quoted which started this discussion... Everyone wants us to sign another CB and a DM, no-one is disagreeing with that..
Some of our fans weren't loved enough as children... In other news, can we turn of notifications for replies? Don't mind for ones about quotes but for every thread I'm involved in gets tiresome.
So your net transfer happiness is in the positive based on signing Bielik? No I'm not... read my comments. I'm arguing that being happy about transfer business based on signing a 17 year old is laughable. Another analogy... if I stole £100 from your but gave you back a fiver, would you be happy with the return of a fiver? Or overall pi55ed off you'd lost £95?
You maybe? A good question. Most people probably reply to most threads so the notification flag almost becomes pointless.
How I feel about the transfer window I'll decide once its over. But I'm pleased about this signing, it's a good thing for the club and can be happy about it without needing to be angry about us not yet signing the players we need for the first team. The two things, signing a youth player, and whether we sign the players we need for the first team aren't linked. My general happiness about transfers for January I couldn't say yet as the window isn't over. As for your thieving analogy... It was rubbish! You can't compare stealing from someone and returning a bit of there money with signing a youth player but not signing the players you want. It's more like someone giving you a fiver but not giving you the hundred quid you asked for if we have to use a money analogy! And again your comparing the overall transfer window which hasn't finished whereas my point is that individually this is a good thing for the club.
