After hearing we don't have much money to spend etc etc.

Surely for Congerton and the scouts it would be worth looking at a few players that are out of contract in summer in the hope of getting them fairly cheap?

Danny Ings is one name that has been banded about but after looking in some more detail there is some real quality that we could get for far cheaper than they are worth...

    http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/endendevertraege

According to that website, there are players we could at least try for including:

Andre Ayew (Marseille), Quick left winger, 8 goals and 4 assists in 29 games last year, looking around the same for this year

Ignazio Abate (AC Milan), Solid full back, might be punching above our weight a bit but would add a bit quality to the defence

Andre-Pierre Gignac (Marseille), 14 goals in 21 games this year...speaks for itself really

Fabian Schar (Basel), After Cabral people may be put off by the team he plays for however he is being linked with some big teams around Europe like Inter, Lazio, Tottenham etc

Jon Flanagan (LIverpool), Young and English so fits Congerton's bill really, also a competent enough fullback who when I have seen has been solid enough

Lasse Schone (Ajax) 9 goals and 7 assists in 21 games this year, admittedly the dutch league so could go either way but still worth the risk?

Joao Peirera (Valencia) Solid enough fullback, at the age of 30 coming to the end of his career and may be available on the cheap

Vieirinha (Wolfsburg) in 23 apps has 2 goals and 7 assists this year? think we need someone creating the goals not only scoring them tbh!

Jonathon (Inter) Competent enough right back, and playing for Inter can only benefit us with his experience, dont believe he is first choice though, does have 2 assists in 5 games though

Juraj Kucka (Genoa) not fantastic in terms of assists or goals but believe he is rather quick which we are severely lacking

Yoann Gourcuff (Lyon) Not getting much game time this season but has 3 goals and 2 assists in 8 games, Gomez Replacement?

Might be more players on there which I don't know about/have never seen play
However some of them are definitely obtainable this window

No go on any off them imo. Many will be resigning the others will be looking to sign pre-contract deals with Clubs who are at least guaranteed safety. By the time we achieve it I'd be very surprised if any were available. Besides. We're in profit with another 70million to be banked if we stay up. That's enough to spend a good 30m and bulk out the wage budget with no excuses. If we don't have a substantial amount to spend this summer I'll be asking serious questions of Short.

How does what work? I'm using logic to form an opinion which is why I said imo. Or do you mean us been out of debt and signing Rodwell out of our own money part? Maggie Byrne said in an interview that the last tv deal left us debt free and we were able to sign a player out of money we've generated for the first time since Ellis became chairman. Pay attention to the club instead of questioning fellow fans using sarcasm. LOOK IT UP! Don't start getting clever. Just don't ****ing start with me today. Smart Arse. <doh>

Fair play. Sorry, I've been ill since Christmas eve with no end in sight. To say I've had a sense of humor bypass is an understatement. Especially when it's people who's goaded me in the past. It's impossible to tell if you're using tongue in cheek humor or just back to your old tricks. But i'll stand corrected and apologise. Sorry fella.

Schar would be a top buy, strong ****er, bit of grace on the ball.

Bigger boys might be sniffing though.

What about Shaun Maloney? his transfer to Leicester fell through, but it was for less than £1 million. I remember him playing quite well when Wigan were in the prem. I'm surprised he's not been linked with more clubs. What's happened to him?
