for most of my long time as a Leeds supporter, I've had hero figures, players I really admired and when they would eventually move on, would cause me heartache. Early years, King Billy and Peter Lorimer, Strachan from Wilkos era Bowyer from O Learys era and Snoddy in recent times. Over the past few seasons, our team and squad has been filled with a mixture of garbage and grossly over rated youths. I no longer feel any connection whatsoever with any of these guys. To me, they're just a bunch of duffers togged out in Leeds kit. Not bothered who we buy or sell, and have felt this way for a few seasons now, as I know they're going to be fairly **** anyway. Recent Visit to Fulham game confirmed my worst fears. Awful entertainment from a poor outfit but the worst part being I'm not sure I care that much anymore. Years of neglect at the club have taken their toll on me for one and until such time as we have players worth the hero or legend title, I'll settle for being little more than an interested observer. If that makes me a plastic or whatever, so be it but life's too short to spend hours trawling Twitter and elsewhere for details of our accounts or figuring out nonsensical Italian tax laws. To be fair, I couldn't care less if warnock or wonton were sold, they're not worth losing five minutes sleep over
Agree, with all you said, sad how things have changed,we have no cult players anymore, Personally the twitter crap an endless maths bore me, But as I heard in a hardware store today, banter, You can change anything in your life but you can't change yer football team. We have no choice. MOT.
At the risk of sounding like Victor Meldrew I'm with you on this. This season I paid for Sky Sports for the first time thinking Id enjoy a load of footy. Instead I am now hooked on the NFL, what is happening to me! I have watched around 20 games of American football and hardly bother watching any of our football anymore, fed up with all the imports, play acting and the miserable daily grind of LUFC. I think the major commercialisation of the game is slowly eroding it from a fans point of view. Paddy Power have it right in their TV ads - feigning injury, lightening strike and the new one where the Arab owner has changed the teams kit - sums the game up!
Nope not today Glory. Too much good stuff going on away from the Leeds circus. That's where my priorities will be from here in. As I've said, Leeds haven't merited our die hard support for a long time. Mine will be at a different level until there's something worth watching. After all I won't watch or listen to a band if they've gone ****
I was going to reply to this last night but it was a strange day yesterday so I didn't. A defeat on Saturday used to leave me feeling fed-up on Sunday and even Monday going into work facing the banter from work colleagues. That feeling wore off long ago, I am not sure if it was a case of getting accustomed to the feeling of losing or just getting older and realising there are more important things and win, lose or draw, my life isn't going to change. On the forum I know I come over far too negative from behind the keyboard but it is hard getting your point over when you are not face to face. Plastic fans, well I was born in Northampton, I have lived here all my life, I have supported Leeds for 40+ years it must be now so I can be considered that from day one. I used to get to see them play about 10 times a season, I then got married and a near £100 round trip with ticket, fuel, food to watch second rate football lost it's appeal. Last live game I got to was a few seasons back, away to Peterborough, we snatched a late winner and I must admit, the buzz did return but I couldn't help but continually think back to being at Elland Road and watching Strachan, Speed, Batty and company playing the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. I have got a bit soft as I have got older as well and it was bloody freezing. It has changed for everyone, do any teams have hero's any longer, yes a few but money talks and a hero one season and villain the next. Rugby both League and Union are my choice of TV sport, lots of home grown talent and no pretending to be hurt.
If it helps with costs and you fancy getting to a game give me a shout, I can fix you up with a ticket f.o.c... The only game I can't help with is against the wallies, already given my spare away.
N p mate.... My mrs used to spend all my cash so know what it's like. PM me if you fancy a game. Open ended offer.
Hope you take up the offer, Ristac. You & I need to meet up. I'm not the devil I come over as in print & am better looking than Glory (which isn't difficult, tbh).
The plan is. When Ristac comes up, he sits one side, I sit the other and we brainwash you till you see the dark.
You know it's bad when one of your hero's turns out to be an arsewipe - Lorimer. It never helps when you see your club and fans raped by a greedy con man - Bates. It hurts when history repeats itself season after season with GFH raping us, Patel having his go, Haigh having a go and getting jailed and then Harvey having a go at Cellino and on and on All the time this garbage plays out we see garbage football season after season and see quality players vanish and players who we wanted swerve past because we don't have cash. Things start to look up quality wise but having no manager damages us again. It's bad when the best players from the academy are sold cheap to proper clubs like Everton, Chelsea, City and even Villa and Norwich. A new crop starting to come through but now stymied by lack of leadership. Will it ever end
