The small differences in UK & US English always amuses me.

The Yanks say, "Glad to see you're back."
The Mackems say, "Glad to see your back."

I see the arrogant 'know it alls' on the Hull board have provided an early contender for 'Fail of 2015' with this thread ......
    http://www.not606.com/threads/altidore-offered-in-exchange-for-defoe.288771/
"Not a chance in hell that this will happen. But shows just how desperate the Mackems are ? lol."

It's hilarious that posters of a club that paid £10 million for Abel Hernández should feel the need to create a thread specifically to mock another striker, not the first thread on that subject either. Hull haven't scored, so far, in 2015 ....... with the strikers they currently have available that may 'carry on regardless' of what their master tactician can do.

Meanwhile back on planet Earth ......

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...e-the-best-January-transfer-signing-ever.html

Sunderland's signing of Jermain Defoe would be the best January transfer signing ever
Toronto gain a player who had become a joke on Wearside - albeit a fondly thought of one - while Sunderland have closest thing you can to guaranteeing goals

"Defoe will benefit enormously financially from the move, but while you may have been told he will earn £80,000-a-week for the next three-and-a-half years at the Stadium of Light, that is not his basic weekly wage.

For Defoe to earn that headline-grabbing figure he will have to win every single bonus available to him and as Sunderland haven’t won a trophy since 1973 and haven’t played in Europe since then either, that’s unlikely."

Some Hull posters are trying to cover their backs by now claiming that either we've paid £14 million plus wages or are paying Defoe £80 thousand a week.
The facts are that we've shifted Jozy when people were saying we wouldn't be able to give him away and he could've sat on his contract soaking up much needed wages.

Hull have seemed to take great pleasure in pointing out how useless Altidore was

...... while ignoring the fact that Hull also had him there.

What a great deal this is for Sunderland. We have to believe that the club has started to 'look outside of the box' with the players we're after. Hopefully Defoe will be better 'inside of the box' than poor old Jozy was. I wish Jozy well, I just wish I hadn't driven 300 miles to see his 'performance' against Kidderminster <doh>

CRYSTAL Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed he wanted to bring Jermain Defoe to the club.

The 32-year-old striker is on the verge of completing a move to Sunderland, who are believed to have fought off up to ten clubs for his signature.

Pardew previously worked with Defoe at West Ham United, but it seems Palace were beaten comfortably in the queue for the former England man.

“I think it’s a good move for Sunderland to have secured Jermain,” said the manager.

“He’s a goalscorer and think Gus Poyet will be the first to say they need goals, so it’s a good signing for them.

“We tried to get Defoe but we were probably a bit late in the loop on that one.

“I wouldn’t say we were that close but it never really got to the stage where I spoke to Jermain."

Harry Redknapp is asked about January transfer targets, but plays a straight bat to a host of names put to him.

Jermain Defoe? "Well, he's gone to Sunderland now hasn't he? But we couldn't afford a deal for him."

SUNDERLAND are confident that Jermain Defoe’s international clearance will go through in time for him to make his debut at Spurs tomorrow – and he could even start against his former club.

Confirmation of Defoe’s move to the Stadium of Light was delayed yesterday due to the time delay with Canada, where Jozy Altidore was completing the formalities of his switch to MLS outfit Toronto FC last night.

However, there has been no hitch to the deal, with Defoe due to be unveiled by Sunderland today after completing all the formalities of his switch, including passing a medical and agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal with the Black Cats.

There is unlikely to be any problem in registering Defoe with the Premier League before today’s noon deadline, to enable him to feature at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

But Sunderland will then be waiting on Defoe’s international clearance coming through from Canada, although they have until an hour before kick-off to receive it.

That proved to be a problem for the Wearsiders on the opening day of the season when Argentinian defender Santiago Vergini was unable to play, but Sunderland are hopeful that there will be no repeat this weekend.

Presuming Defoe is given the all-clear to play against Spurs – where he netted more than 100 goals during two spells at White Hart Lane – he could even be included in the starting XI, despite not featuring for Toronto since mid-October.

Sunderland are understood to have been working on various attacking combinations on the training ground over recent days to solve their goal problems, including with Defoe in the central striker role.

Likewise, Toronto are expected to unveil Altidore today, and have pencilled in a press conference with the 25-year-old after ending his miserable 18-month spell at Sunderland.

Altidore underwent a medical with Toronto late last night (GMT) after touching down in Canada, in the final step of the swap deal involving the two strikers.

As the Echo revealed yesterday, Sunderland have not paid any extra fee to land Defoe from the money they have received for Altidore, with a straight exchange essentially taking place for the duo. And while the MLS itself has essentially bought Altidore, the US international will sign for Toronto after completing the league’s allocation process, although that is thought to be a formality.
