Assuming we don't sign anybody, what would be your team with the current squad?

    Mine would be:

    Davis
    Richardson Fonte Jaidi/Martin Harding
    Chamberlain Schneiderlin Chaplow Lallana
    Lambert Barnard

    SUBS:
Bialkowski, Jaidi/Martin, Butterfield, Holmes, Hammond, Guly, Connolly

Can't believe Dickson doesn't make your squad at all.

Nigel likes to rotate players so we will play a squad system rather than a fixed team although there will be one or two positions that will be fixed.

Guly would have to be in my first 11 though.

Not sure he really does the squad rotation thing as something deliberate. More last season because of the backlog of games due to postponements.

With no Johnstone Paints or no early FA cup rounds, the schedule is easier for us to manage.

I think Holmes will help you with that rotation :emoticon-0100-smile

which is a shame, because he is very talented. I thought he was electric for the 18 minutes he came oin against Posh...then limped off.

    Mine would be:

    Davis
    Richardson Fonte Martin Dickson
    Chamberlain Chaplow Schneiderlin Lallana
    Barnard Lambert

Subs: Bialkowski, Jaidi, Harding, Hammond, Holmes, Guly, Connolly

I think Fonte should be the team captain next year as well.

That's the one it's gotta be if no signings are made. Signings will however be made.

Don't think we should neglect the idea of 4-3-1-2 with lallana playing in the hole (best man on the ball, why not?) and chaplow played on the left of the three (or on the right and swapped with chambo).

The 4-3-1-2 formation was ok for a time but the lack of width always worried me - especially away at P'boro..

Is this with Lallana in the free role or Guly. I like that with Lallana in that free role - he'd do loads of damage.

    Davis
    Richardson...Fonte...Jaidi...Harding
    Chamberlain...Schneiderlin...Hammond...Lallana
    Lambert...Guly

    Bart, Martin/Seaborne, Butterfield, Mills/Dickson/Holmes, Chaplow, Barnard, Connolly/Forte

For a 442 to work with very attacking wingers, I think we need strikers who are equally good playing deeper and linking up with midfield. Richardson is quicker than Butterfield so he's in there, but Butterfield works well with Chamberlain, so I'd be happy with either.

The players that I would definately start with are Jose, Spider, Deano, Chambo, Adam, Guly and Rickie. There is a case for all the other positions to be selected depending on form....Kelv or Bart, Butters or Rico, Dan or Dicko, Jedi or Martin/Sebo... Chappers, Barny, Conners and Forte will be our 'impact' subs.
I do, however think that we will be signing at least two players of first team quality, probably a Midfielder a Striker and possibly a Defender.
