    This has to be QPR:

Our client, a Professional Football Club in London, is looking for a Finance Director.
Working alongside the Club’s CEO and Chairman the FD will be responsible for running a small department.
Key to the role is that the incoming FD will be able to demonstrate a recent history of working in a commercial role which required modelling of information to make sense of it and to draw commercial decisions from it.
Communication skills are key as the Finance Director will be required to deal with people with many departments across the Football Club and help them understand their finances, budgets and plans.
The Qualified Accountant Finance Director will have a key role in Board Meetings and will be skilled in managing at times of change as there is considerable change required in the years ahead at the club.
A few key points are listed below. The Finance Director would ideally have experience at a Football Club (or similar e.g. Rugby). This could be a position for someone who is already a Finance Director, but equally it could be a first step from a Controllership in to a FD position, if the candidate can demonstrate a commercial leadership background.

    Duties (a few examples)
    • Lead and develop finance teams
    • Lead budget process
    • Cash Management
    • Modelling
    • Preparation of monthly updates
    • Treasury
    • Financial Fair Play Management
£80k plus benefits if anyone is interested.

I would apply but I've only 28 months to retirement!

£80k to help bring us out of the mire looks a little on the low side to me. Also understanding the financial workings of the rest of the board won't be easy.

Can't they swop salaries withMr. Beard?

Our last finance director was poached by Spurs, which I find a bit strange. Why would they want her after the mess we're in at the moment?

Terry's right. £80,000 is very low considering the circumstances.

Well nines. Consider the mess that we would be in if she hadn't managed to control TF's excesses.

Perhaps when the FL announce the results of our accounts that they have been sent, all will become clear. Note, that the club don't have to announce them as they are not the accounts for our financial year end.

That is, unless Companies House have been notified of a year ending change & have agreed to it. They don't automatically allow this date to be changed.

A little bit off topic, but does anyone else think it strange that the FL have not announced (at least publicly) any penalties incurred by Leicester & ourselves?

It's quite a while ago now that sanctions were issued against clubs still in the FL.

I suspect we are in behind closed discussions with the FL Terry. Without the help of an FD. Genius.

Isn't the Financial Year End 31st May? I seem to recall that the FL had received the year end accounts by end of November (?) so it is a little surprising that nothing has been released (leaked). Have to check Companies House web site to see if accounts filed but is it still 9 months from year end when they must be submitted, a tad rusty on these dates now.

I'm far from sure on this Tramore, but I don't think our year end date is 31st May. I'm sure somebody on the forum will have access to the information lodged with Companies House. It certainly wouldn't be the date for all Football League clubs though. In fact it would make more sense for the FL to require accounts to the end of June as that is the contract cut off date for players.

The FL required all clubs to submit accounts for the period ending on that date, but whether that was for 12 months to then, or ffrom the club's last FY end I don't know.

Who is our resident expert on these matters?

No expert, but I think the FL want accounts for last season i.e. end May 2013 to end May 2014. Even if it doesn't coincide with the R's financial year, easy enough for the highly paid auditors to produce accounts for that period.

And very easy for them to be different from the official accounts issued with companies House!

I'm not sure that what is given to the FL would be audited or that they could insist that they were. I think they would just be P&L's produced by the club's.

Either way, the FL regulations were poorly thought out!

    ...and a pirate.

Still 80K a week sounds OK.

    That is right isn't it?

I doubt that the role is that complicated, and the club isn't really a particularly big business

    I would've been interested but not at £80k :emoticon-0102-bigsm
