  3. He just couldn't cut the mustard any more.

Someone mentioned Darren Bent. Well, Defoe will be just like Bent, for you lot.

Yes, Bent scored goals, but almost invariably they were goals that didn't matter. He never seemed to score goals that won us games. He was a very selfish player, and not the most intelligent, always allowing his natural instinct to shoot on sight get the better of that killer pass to someone better placed than him to score. And to top it off, he was a lazy bastard and a total dude in defence. If you found yourself up against a team on form, you were, basically, playing with 10 men.

I'm not saying that Defoe is as bad as Bent, but I do believe they are cut from the same mould.

    I hope Defoe scores 24 goals a season that don't matter <ok>

Bit of a contradiction to your comment about 10 minutes ago, the one where you laughed at somebody saying Defoe was still a 10-20 goals a season player <doh>

BBC Sport understands that Jermain Defoe has passed his medical and agreed personal terms with Sunderland.

However, the deal is thought to involve a straight player swap, with Jozy Altidore going to Toronto and no transfer fees being exchanged.

Sunderland are now awaiting news from Toronto and are hopeful that the deal will go through in time for Defoe to be registered for the match against his former club, Tottenham, on Saturday.

    I love that phrase, unveiled.

They never actually 'unveil' them do they..... "tadaaaaa, it's ya man Jermain!"

  13. If you think Defoe is going to score 20 goals for your club, you are a fool.

He might score 10 - just - depending on how and where you play him, but you'll concede just as many because, just as with Bent, he's a luxury player.

There's no contradiction. Even his old mentor, Harry, didn't want him at QPR. Surely that must tell you something, no?

To be fair, I'd take 10 off Falcao!

10 is a decent return for half a season.

If he scores half as many as Bent I will be happy. Think you are missing the point regarding our present strike force.

Born Bishop Auckland hospital, live in NE1, there ya go. Not sure why anyone would not want to disclose that. As if all Newcastle fans have to be from Newcastle???
