Birdman, The Imitation Game, Whiplash and American Sniper are great films.

Haven't seen it but Theory of Everything seems to be a decent film is reviews and awards are anything to go by.

I enjoyed Birdman, Grand Hotel was quality and I've yet to see American Sniper, although I hear good.

Cumberbatch for Imitation Game would be an interesting choice, I think he's quality, if not a bit samey in all his roles.

Gonna see Foxcatcher on Satdee - anyone any thoughts on whether it's worth it?

Pike was alright in Gone Girl but she wasnt amazing or anything. Surprised she's on the list.

Not sure how a dragon, Khan and Alan Turing are samey. His performances in Hawking, Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and War Horse are good too.

He's just flavour of the month. And for good reason, he's a brilliant actor.

He's still not beaten Sherlock though.

Of the best picture nominees I have only seen the Grand Budapest Hotel. I wasn't massively impressed. I found it a bit twee and it barely raised a titter. Not overly surprised it's nominated because the Oscars are generally full of boring, pretentious and self important rubbish that most people wouldn't watch.

I though Gone Girl was excellent. Would have liked to see that nominated.

I'm surprised The Lego Movie wasn't nominated for Best Animated Film, it's awesome.

I look forward to seeing some of them when they're finally shown on terrestrial TV.

You might be waiting a while, The Dark Knight was only shown for the first time this year, 7 years late.

I 100% genuine thought it was the worst film I have ever seen.

Unless you just mean purely for the animation? Granted it looked amazing but the 'jokes' seemed like they'd been written 5 mins before the actors were given the scripts. I was stunned at how bad it was considering the reviews ****ing over it.

A lad called Chris Hees, from East Hull, has been nominated for an Oscar in the short animation section, for a film called The Bigger Picture(he's also been nominated for a Bafta).

You haven't seen many films. There is much worse out there.

I thought it was an alright film, nothing fantastic, certainly one of the better animated films I've seen in a good while, but most animated films aren't that great.

Tbf 'awesome' was a slight exaggeration referencing the film.

Don't really care to be honest. The whole thing is a farce.

My grandson thinks so too. His tastes will no doubt become more sophisticated after his 9th birthday.

    Haha, fair enough.

And I've seen shedloads of films. Maybe I also slightly exagerated, it wouldve been more accurate to say the most disappointing film I've ever seen. I had high hopes, every review I saw / read / heard said it was tremendous, and it was in fact absolutely ****ing turgid.

It is certainly overrated, that's for sure.

Still surprised at it's lack of nomination. Usually the Oscars like to go for the popular films, and there was no animation created last year that was bigger. (Frozen was made in 2013 before anyone says it. God I hate that film.)
