With one eye on my ante post voucher on Don Cossack for the Gold Cup, should I be wanting Champagne Fever to beat him over 2m4f today, hence pushing connecitons to up him in trip?

Sad to hear about Charlie Swan retiring from the training ranks. Is Irish racing heading towards an elite band of trainers whose firepower and facilities make it impossible for anyone else to get a sniff? Mullins and Elliot seemingly with the best ammunition, although at least Gigginstown spread some of their horses around to people like Mouse Morris and McManus likes to distribute his horses amongst the lesser trainers. The Grade 2 at Thurles today is a good indication of where things are heading ...................

Nap today has to go to Wizard's Bridge in the opener at Wincanton. Colin Tizzard's Alflora gelding will love the ground and has already won on heavy at Fontwell. The good-soft at Ascot last time didn't suit him at all and he was always going to struggle carrying top weight in what looked a decent contest. Wizard's Bridge is dropped a couple of pounds for that and today's conditions will suit him much better.

Morning, troops. Re Might Bite’s run yesterday across the county line. 2 furlongs from home he was travelling like a dream with the Geraghty lad atop motionless and already having worked out his win percentage. Similarly, Mr Henderson was heard, at that time, to order from a passing bar steward a large celebratory GnT (‘steady on the T, lots of ice and a slice’). However, within a few strides he found very little and from that point on plugged on somewhat one paced to be beaten around 4 lengths. I don’t know if it was the ground, fitness, weakness or a combination of all of these that led to his downfall but keep this one in the old notebook as he looked very good for a long way and with this experience behind him Might Bite should prove a different animal next time and ensure that losses are only lent.

Nothing for me today, pilgrims and I’ve deployed the ‘no bet’ banner. Good luck to those who do trade though.

I say old boy did the steward forget to put the tonic in your mid morning GnT! Since when has Wincanton been in Suffolk!

Lots of money for Mr Henderson's winning pointer Kilcrea Vale in the openenr at Market Rasen Sir Barney - the early 2/1 has long gone and some firms now going "levels you devils"

As my illness has not yet abated I am forced to spend another day at home so here's a fun little Lucky 63 to chase away the boredom:

    1.55 Ludlow Royal Palladium 5/2
    3.30 Ludlow Border Breaker 6/1
2.15 Market Rasen Royal Guardsman 9/1
    1.30 Wincanton Wizard’s Bridge 9/2
    2.05 Wincanton Trickaway 2/1
    4.10 Wincanton Thistlecrack 13/8

    Best of luck everyone <ok>

I think you probably want Champagne Fever to make all Oddy and for Don Cossack to surge home in an unlucky 2nd.

Gigginstown will likely go Ryanair though given that Road To Riches has already won a Gold Cup trial in the Lexus.

A Henderson horse won a hurdle yesterday to follow up his debut bumper success. Not seen the race and cant remember the name but is there any chance of him being his Supreme 2nd string to go with L'Ami Serge?

Yep, Oddy. He should oblige but is one of those animals that the terrible cliché ‘whatever he does over hurdles is a bonus, applies. Very much an embryonic chaser.

Needs to win a few races to start recouping his purchase price. A whopping £100,000.

    Sugar Baron Toppy <ok>

I found Newbury a little muddling / maddening yesterday, looked pretty testing. Having said that Sugar Baron did it very nicely but I can't see him quoted anywhere for the Supreme.

I was actually fancying Dr Newland's runner Gioia Di Vita in the same race (ran a cracker last time out when just touched off by a nice John Ferguson animal) but the money for Kilcrea Vale makes me very wary ............................. a shade of odds on with "the magic sign" now

Sprinter Sacre one of five declared for the 'Clarence House' at the final declaration stage. The other four are Dodging Bullets, Grey Gold, Somersby, and Twinlight.
