Most expensive African footballers Wilfried Bony, Swansea to Man City (2015) - £25m rising to £28m Emmanuel Adebayor, Arsenal to Man City (2009) - £25m Michael Essien, Lyon to Chelsea (2005) - £24.4m Yaya Toure, Barcelona to Man City (2010) - £24m Didier Drogba, Marseille to Chelsea (2004) - £24m (reported) The deal makes Bony one of the most expensive African footballers in history. Yet it's still not good enough for a handful of old Jack boots on here? Man you make me laugh, you really do!............................No more lads my sides are splitting............. please log in to view this image
And this matters what exactly? So Bony is the "most expensive African footballer". Nice for him, but so what? The margin between Bony and Adebayor should have been greater. The revenue received to the club should have been greater. Are you all about symbolism over substance? Are you really that simple? Do you live to fawn over such superficiality? If so, the joke is on you. As I have pointed out, the discount extended to City is equivalent to a good fraction of the amount we reportedly paid for a World Cup Final defender. As I have pointed out and discussed by others, the comparative value of Bony to other forwards was significantly discounted relative to recent market valuations. We have left value on the table that could have funded part of the Liberty expansion, or additional training and Academy infrastructure and operation, or other players of value. For what purpose was this done? For whose benefit? Did we have to enter into this trade? Did City really need such generosity and charity? Were we financially or economically dependent on the closure of this deal? If so why? Are you really that simple or vapid in your thinking and curiosity that you don't understand the significance of what has happened? And the subtraction of Bony's goals from our projected goal difference has not even been factored into these evaluations and where this will leave us in the League. Where the **** are Bony's missing goals for the rest of the season going to come from? And don't tell me Gomis, because he hasn't put a shot on target in the league this month, after how many minutes on the field? Don't tell me Routs and Dyer, because the way they have been playing they're barely able to make a respectable cross or take on and beat a defender. Once again the club finds itself in a Scotland situation ... but without a Sousa. Now, in the ultimate irony, we have a Monk not a Sousa to make the difference. Dear o' ****ing dear! Some have talked about the risk of not making any money if something negative were to happen to Bony, hence the urgency to "cash in" .... well what about the risk of not making up the missing goals. This risk is not hypothetical, it is real. We have made it real and now we have to work to over come it. Cash is a high, not a fix. Enjoy your high DPJ, before the reality of needing a fix sets in.
According to The Guardian on line,Bony will be paid an extra £20,000,00 per match played,as a top up to his paltry £100,000,00 per week. So now we know where our missing £5,000,000.00 is going. Monkenomics at work.
I've pointed out the blindingly obvious to you. Only 2 are strikers. Both had inferior goal scoring records at the time of transfer. Also, none of the other players moved in January. Of the players you compare the nearest in terms of time was 5 years ago and the furthest 10-11 years....transfer fees have gone up during that time. Wilf has had no serious injury. Wilf had recently signed a new contract for a club who are financially secure, making a profit every season. .....yeah, I think you have made the point very well
Vetch - it was the Board's decision to sell Bony on the terms finally agreed. Monk, like many on here, may have wanted at least £30m for Wilf, but it was not up to him.
Another Comparison... Eliaquim Mangala They signed the 23 year old centre-back for £30m last summer. In 6 seasons he had played 128 games (77 in Belgium for Standard Liege and 51 in Portugal for FC Porto....2 good teams in 2 weak leagues). He was totally unproven as a Prem centre-back but had appeared for France. Apparently a young centre-back with potential is worth £5m more than a proven Prem performer with a goalscoring record of 1 in 2. Well not in my book. Goals = prizes. The fact that we got £5m less for Bony in the January transfer window says it all.
Presumably it was the Board's decision to sell,Taff, Monk, however, clearly stated,on more than one occasion, that a minimum of £ 30,000,000.00 would be required for Bony's signature.
But we may/will never know for sure if Monk knew that the Board would accept an offer of around £26m/£27m - so he may have been trying to talk up Man City's offer (or anyone else's for that matter).
Bony is ranked as the fifth-highest goalscorer across the top six leagues in Europe since the start of the 2012-13 season. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Graziano Pellè have scored more than Bony’s 56 league goals during that period. Not bad company to be keeping, especially as his goals have come for – with all due respect to Vitesse Arnhem and Swansea City – two of the lesser lights in the Eredivisie and the Premier League. Still think we has a good deal .
Could be,Taff. I think a lot of comments that are being made come from disappointment that he has gone. And it all happened with such speed. Negotiations must have been taking place back in December, while we all ate, drank and slept.
No chance of this happening but I like the sentiment , unless of course you need the money, probably he's still smarting from Liverpool raiding Southampton . WILFRIED Bony’s £28 million transfer has been slammed by former Manchester City player Mick Channon. Ex-striker Channon scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for City over a two-year period. But he is not in favour of his old side’s move for Bony, who signed a four-and-a-half year deal with City on Wednesday. “Football is getting a bit sad,” Channon told talkSPORT. “He is not a bad player, Bony, but for God’s sake, £30million? They are like spoilt kids — they have got to have all the candies in the shop. “The FA have got to say 'come on'. Once you have got your team together, I think it is ridiculous these big clubs can go and spend (so much money). “Someone has got to stand up and say something about it one day. If you are a signed player, that is your team for a couple of years or until your contract runs out.”
Mick Channon,ex Man.City "great" had the following to say earlier today - "They,(Man.City),are like spoilt kids - they have got to have all the candies in the shop".
You could also factor that Lukaku is only 21. When you think that we sold Bony for 28 million, add ons included, Southampton sold Shaw for 27 million and Lallana for 25 million
I was about to post that example. We got the same for Bony as the Saints got for Lallana....from a club with smaller funds than Citeh! Ridiculous.
Me too,but they didn't think to consult us,Valley. More fool them,I say. On reflection, perhaps £35 mill should have been the starting point.
Wow 25m is a bargain. Just think for people of a that went for ridiculous prices compared to ability Welbeck 16m Javi Garcia 13m Balotelli 16m Rojo 16m Long 12m Chambers 16m Brown Ideye (who cant get a game for wba) 10m Markovic 20m Mangala 32m Lallana 25m Lukaku 28m Costa 32m Lovren 20m Then to rub it in, 25m from City, the biggest wasters of money on earth. You could easily have fleeced them for more money
"the biggest wasters of money on earth". And it's oh so easy to waste money that you haven't actually had to work for.
........"We have Monk not Sousa", Hell there are some real drama queens on here today, Where are the goals going to come from you say. well I would have thought that was pretty obvious, and I have full confidence in our forward line to deliver, and deliver well, now get a grip man for goodness sake, we will move onwards and upwards as we always do...............
