    Let me remind you.

    2nd of January.
Then not two weeks later, yesterday evening, on this very thread you're going on like this.

Didn't need to trawl back years now do I?

Now do you know what you're on about? No problem with generalising fella but if you're going piss on and whine about others doing it only to do it yourself I'm sure as hell going to draw attention to it. Especially when you're going on like a grade A bellend. Have a ****ing word with yourself Somb ffs.

Maybe you are paying him too much... (who actually knows?) but if he starts scoring every other week. You won't care.

His wages will be net of Altidore's so the overall cost won't be so bad, but I still don't regard him as the answer in any way shape or form.

Loved to be proved wrong like...

Jermain Defoe's move to Sunderland being held up by the MLS
JERMAIN DEFOE's move to Sunderland is in danger of being held up by red tape delaying Jozy Altidore's return to Major League Soccer.

ON THE BRINK: Jermain Defoe is on the verge of signing for Sunderland [GETTY]

Defoe was last night on Wearside for a medical ahead of sealing his Premier League comeback with a bumper three-and-a-half-year deal worth £14m to the former England striker.

The Black Cats hope to announce the £70,000-a-week move today, ending the 32-year-old's unhappy spell at Toronto FC.

The Canadian side are keen to take Stadium of Light flop Altidore in exchange for Defoe in a swap deal that values both players at £4.5m.

But the US international - who's scored just three goals since a £7m move from AZ Alkmaar 18 months ago - must first negotiate MLS' Allocation Ranking process due to a previous stint with New York Red Bulls.

ROAD BLOCK: Jozy Altidore's move to Toronto is slowing down Defoe's move to the Stadium of Light [GETTY]

“he Canadian side are keen to take Stadium of Light flop Altidore in exchange for Defoe in a swap deal that values both players at £4.5m.”

Teams are given a ranking to decide who has priority to sign a player returning to the league - meaning Altidore must first be offered to teams with the highest ranking.

Toronto are sixth on the list behind Montreal Impact, San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids, Chicago Fire and Houston Dynamo.

But with none of those sides believed to be interested, Toronto can pay to jump the queue by trading up their position.

The process threatens to delay Defoe's return being rubber-stamped.

But at this stage there's no danger of it scuppering Sunderland's bold move to make the ex-Tottenham and Portsmouth hitman the highest paid player in the club's history.

All this 'deal held up' stuff is nonsense, just paperwork that will be shuffled around.

"But at this stage there's no danger of it scuppering Sunderland's bold move to make the ex-Tottenham and Portsmouth hitman the highest paid player in the club's history."

So why say there's a 'road block' ...... it's just a bit of a traffic jam.

Can I suggest that everyone on here chucks a tenner into the hat so that Toronto can pay the money required for Josy.

Well I've come into work, scoured the net and still no confirmation anywhere. He's had his medical and by all accounts passed so that suggests to me that he wants to come to us, almost definitely agreed terms, the two clubs involved have agreed and now it's just down to paperwork.

Am I right in thinking they have until 12:00 noon tomorrow to get him registered before he can play against Spurs?

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet uses friendship with Jermain Defoe to lure striker to the Stadium of Light

Gus Poyet took advantage of his long-term friendship with former England forward Jermain Defoe to seal the player's move to Sunderland.

Poyet worked with Defoe, who was desperate to quit Major League Soccer side Toronto, when he was assistant manager to Juande Ramos at Tottenham.

He took Defoe out for dinner on Tuesday night to discuss his return to English football after an unhappy 11-month spell in Canada, where he scored 11 goals in 16 games.

Gus Poyet (left) worked with Defoe (centre) at Tottenham and is good friends with the striker
The pair were at Spurs for the League Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley in 2008, but Poyet left Spurs with Ramos the following October.

Defoe's first game for Sunderland — if he receives international clearance in time — could be against Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Defoe, 32, has completed a medical and will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal worth £70,000 a week at the Stadium of Light.

Poyet has been desperate for firepower and believes Defoe can help steer his team clear of the relegation battle in the final four months of the Barclays Premier League season.

Defoe will undergo a medical at Sunderland as he closes in on a move to the Black Cats
Sunderland have scored only 18 goals in 21 league games so far.

Defoe had been training with Tottenham's Under 21 development squad as talks continued over his move back to English football.

Toronto had been holding out for £8million, but Defoe's exit has been made possible by Jozy Altidore heading in the opposite direction on a deal worth £4m a year.

    http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport...defoe-in-straight-swap-for-altidore-1-7051199

"There have been indications emerging from Toronto that Sunderland are paying a £6million transfer fee for Defoe, while recouping a portion of that investment from the sale of Altidore to the MLS itself, who are then expected to franchise the Black Cats flop to the Canadian club.

However, the Echo now understands that ....... Sunderland have not splashed out ANY extra money to land Defoe ......... than they will receive for Altidore.

Sunderland have essentially ......... just conducted an exchange of strikers .......... rather than a player-plus-cash deal.

The Black Cats have made a big investment on Defoe’s wages though, with the 55-time England international due to become the club’s highest earner.

The contract is thought to be markedly lower than the £80,000 per week which has been mentioned in some reports, but it is a measure of chairman Ellis Short’s continued support that Sunderland have beaten off competition from Crystal Palace, Hull and Leicester to land Defoe on a big-money deal."

That looks like good business, a proven PL goalscorer for a proven flop.
The doom mongers will just have to seize on wages to make their point ........ whatever that is <doh>

I'm chuffed to bits at Gus's ambition but what I find astonishing about that story is Jozy will be getting 4mill a season ????? FFS man. How wrong is this? a man with probably the worst scoring record in EPL history is rewarded with a contract of that magnitude, ****ing astounding.

In comparisum the ginger pirlo deal was worth £10.4m, would they pay an extra £3.6m for a proven premiership england international goal scorer, i think so
