Don't agree... Yes we have played better, but defensively I though we were pretty decent. As someone else pointed out it was 2-1 aggregate against a team who could be playing champions league football next season. Don't listen to Lawrenson.

We did lack a bit of quality in midfield which probably lost us the game in the end, but with players out ill I'm not too fussed. This will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

Good run out for some fringe players....Southampton are not third in the prem by accident....1-0 is respectable.....oh and Lawrensen passing to the keeper maintains possession which imo is not a bad thing.

That was a bit disappointing. However, I thought the Hunt offside decision was a big turning point. 50% 0f the time that would have been called onside and a Town goal after 10 minutes would certainly have changed the atmosphere and the players self-belief. I really think they gave too much respect to Southampton. Granted, they are an excellent side and have quality, but Ipswich only showed a small amount of the teamwork that has got them in to such a promising position this season.Just need to knuckle down now and get back to winning ways Saturday. Come on the Boys!!:emoticon-0148-yes:

Thought distribution from Smiff and Chambers was poor at best!! Hyam looked lost and passing was abysmal, Dids looked average at best, thought Ambrose looked ok first half, Murphs never got a sniff!
Must say i thought Hunts goal should have stood, to me he was level and in my day, level was onside!!
Back to the league now and two winnable games coming up, please let Bish be ok, our one creative player!!
Really think we need a couple in, if not, we aint going up, wonder what Sixto, Mahon, Gio and Williams are up to!!
    Now there is quality!!

Not too downhearted after that. Southampton didn't really carve us open in either of the matches and we gave a good account of ourselves.
McG looks like he's trying his hardest not to lose 100 quid (goal target bet) and Parr is not as good going forward as Ty.
Midfield wasn't great but Bru is a decent player and Ambrose contributed well.

There are positives to be taken, namely that both games were evenly contested and it looks like we'd be ok in the premier league.

Luckily I didn't have to listen to Lawro, Fox commentator is Martin Tyler and I think he does a good job.

Think you pretty much summed it up, yes we lack creativity but we lack the ability to just keep the ball and take the pressure off of us and have a breather, under Mick we don't seem to be a very patient team. We hound to get the ball back and in possession we rush or play the percentages. One thing which really annoys me, yes we're a direct team (which I don't particularly like) but when you get a free kick in the opposition half don't fanny around with it pump the ball in the box!!!

Nothing to be concerned about and I think pretty much summed up where we are at the moment, dogged in defence tenacious in midfield, McGoldrick tries to hard and when he drops deep we look quite immobile upfront, we lack anyone to control a game in midfield, we lack quality but have great endeavour, I think Mick has done an outstanding job but as soon as I watch a match I get frustrated

Frustration!!! Thats it ptc, im the same, i find myself yelling at the computer, while watching a live stream, because we are so wasteful with the ball (hot potato) In general, if our imidfield are retaining the ball, it will involve many back and side passes, often the forward pass will result with the defenfer receiving tha ball and aimlessly hoofing it forward, in the hope our forwards will get on the end of it. We really need a more mobile 'Garvan' type player in midfield and our wide men need to be more direct, we lack that pacey direct winger that gets to the byline and whips a cross in!!
Think we deffo need a couple of new faces to freshen things up, not a major overhaul but a bit of flair/quality, not another Sammon/Hunt type though!!

Frustration, disappointment, yes and although no disgrace, all comments on this and other thread have summed it up well.
Didsy needs to find his form, Hyam clueless. Defense looked ok, but preferred Parr at RB and Ming at LB. He showed his class again.Freshen up with 2-3 creative, strong players. What a difference it might have been if Hunt's goal was allowed, which would have injected fresh dynamism after a good start. Just hope Bish, Tabb and alright Skuse(!) are fit soon. Bru was our MOM IMO.

Remain very happy with where we are, last night & Derby showed what we lacked. No major changes, but will ME get his cheque book out?

Onwards & upwards...trounce Milwall.....tough game against resurgent Seagulls!

We definitely have got better on the ball since when Mick has got here but we are very one paced and I think with a small squad after half a season, some of the players are looking a little fatigued and that's because alot of the time we don't let the ball do the work. Whilst someone with creativity would be ideal just someone who offers themself for the ball all the time who can control the tempo of the game would be great, doesn't have to be overly creative, Skuse has the ability to do this but not the mindset.

I think a similar player to Sammon with a bit more quality infront on goal would be ideal, his runs and movement are really what we need, as I've said before sometimes Murphy and McGoldrick can be quite a static forward line which sometimes doesn't give us many options when we're on the ball.

I though Bru and Ambrose looked half decent tonight, Bru looks like a handy little player and Ambrose showed in glimpses of why I think Mick has given him another deal. I also am starting to be slowly won over by Mings after failing to see what the fuss was about at the start of the season

Unfortunately a team like Southampton really emphasised our weaknesses but we still only lost 1-0 and our gk was hardly tested, which shows what a dogged and organised team we are. This style is very useful in getting you out of the Championship as Mick has proved on 2 occassions but beyond that the team will need to show more quality and be more dynamic

Agree ptc. Just a player who can put his foot on the ball, look up and forward, control the midfield and thread a pass creatively...forward! I lost count of the number of times we passed back from promising positions in their half.

I believe McG found his best position just behind front line. Cue another decent striker! And Jonny Williams back would liven things up. Where is Jonny? Fit again, on bench? Available?

Still think Mings in front of Parr would be better, i dont think Mings is a great defender but is quick and good going forward, he worries defenders!!
Not convinced by Chambers at all and think we need a specialist RB, as we have done for many bloody years!!

No need to go overboard lads, I think we have the makings of a decent side.
Go with three at the back, Parr and Mings wide with Bru, Skuse and Teddy in the middle.
I do agree with Spanish though, I found myself shouting at the tv a few times myself.

Could even switch Parr for Ambrose, Ando or one of the Hunt boys. Stephen has delivered some good corners.

Dont think people are going overboard SD, just pointing out a few things we feel could make us better, we do need a bit more flair/pace/quality in the side

Have to say i think Didz body language, last night, spoke volumes!!
The thing is, he has nobody to push him, he has no threat to his position and that really needs to change!!
