On topic comment: Defoe has shown himself to be a decent striker and has a brain in his head which is why he is still going well at 32 whilst arguably better players like Owen were past their best in their mid-20's. Yes he will not be the player he was but he'd still (in my opinion) be in the team for 13/14 of the teams in the league (and no I haven't gone through each team and weighed up their strike force, it is a generic point about what I think his level is). All he actually needs do is score you one or two goals more than Altidore would have done to gain you a coupe of points extra and he'll have done his job for this season. I find it hard to imagine anyone thinks he wont manage that!

Off topic: I was born around Tynemouth in a hospital which is no longer there (called Newcastle Preston or something, I could look it up and am slightly embarrassed I don't just know it but there you go - most of my mates I went to school with, in High Spen on the Gateshead MBC side of the river, were born in Shotley Bridge). But as I've never personally met Smug I fall into the "bollox" category. Which, had we met would probably be a fair assessment also.
