Hi all, After a bit of help from fellow (not)606'ers I really want to go tonight but got to much work on so it's looking increasingly unlikely that i'll get away in time, so could someone who is going start a thread when they get home giving a detailed match report, who played and who was good/bad etc. It would be very much appreciated if they could. Secondly, could anyone who has Gillsplayer notify the rest of us about what Lee and Whelpdale had to say in their interview that is on the OS, any help is always appreciated! Maybe if I spent less time on here i'd finish all my work in time!
I'm not tgoing to the game tonight as I'm exiledbut as far as the interview went both lads said that they were really happy to be at the club. Lee did most of the talking, seems like bit of a character around the dressing room. They got asked of the fact if they were joined at the hip and they said that they signed for P'boro on the same day, both came on loan to Gills at the same time, were room mates at both clubs together and re-signed for Gills at the same time. lee saying that Whelps 'Couldn't live without him' They both said they loved their time on loan. And they appreciated that the fans were so supportive when they were only here for 4 games. They said the players were great but lacked that winning mentality and they were bringing that from Peterborough where they had enjoyed a lot of success. Lee said that the players were all technically gifted and that the winning mentality was the only thing that was lacking when they arrived last year. They said they were helping to make the squad stronger than last year and promotion was obviously the number one aim. They said they had been training hard and looking forward to Ashford tonight and apparantley Whelps put the other boys to shame on the bleep test, so great energy and stamina. Lee jokingly said something like 'running wasnt his specialty' or something like that. Finally they both siad they loved the pink kit.
In regards to the interview, it was two short part interviews with both Whelpdale and Lee at the same time, standing in the top tier of the Medway Stand, rather than repeat what they said, imo they were both in a light hearted mood, I will say nervous but banter mood, confident for the coming season, having felt they built a good rapport with the fans last time round. They are looking forward to the Posh friendly, as a proper chance to say good bye to them. The reporter joked about the pink shirt, to which Lee was wearing a pink T Shirt, stating he likes pink can you not see, so to sum it up a tongue in cheek response by a couple of light hearted lads that are up for the challenge ahead in the new season. More technical stuff, training has been tough and Chris's speed is really quick. Taking nothing a way from the lad's I felt the Kendall interview was better, as you felt the local passion in the conversation, whereas in this interview you could obviously see the guys are serious about what they do but are also up for a laugh it should be a good mix of personalities in the dressing room.
The interviews are generally poor with the interviewer asking the same questions again and again. Let's let them do the talking on the pitch. I am going tonight and will be happy to write a report for people then to add their own views to when i return. UTG!!
Cheers guys, sounds like 2 good characters to have around, maybe half the reason they made such an impact last year. Look forward to the report later.
