JERMAIN Defoe has passed a medical ahead of his proposed move to Sunderland.

The Black Cats are on the verge of completing a deal to bring the England international back to the Premier League after making a breakthrough last night in talks with MLS outfit Toronto FC.

The switch is likely to see Black Cats frontman Jozy Altidore moving in the opposite direction, albeit that still needs to be ratified by the MLS, who have been conducting the negotiations to take the USA international back across the Atlantic.

But while Sunderland are not expected to unveil Defoe tonight, the deal is edging closer, with the 32-year-old understood to be in the North East prior to his switch to the Stadium of Light.

 

And if Jozy goes in the opposite direction,Xmas has come about three weeks late in Sunderland!!!!

I'm a fan of Defoe tbh but in getting overjoyed about this deal you have all surrendered the right to slate Steve Bruce for signing old players on long, lucrative contracts. If the rumoured 80k a week 3 year deal is true that is.

That's exactly what I'm doing to be fair. Just seem to remember the majority had those views on Bruce, and the majority have those views on Defoe, so fair to assume there is at least some overlap.

Actually it takes very little to become a club legend, winning them a trophy will always do the trick. Becoming a club legend without winning a trophy, now that takes some doing. Steven Taylor certainly is not one of those. Nor Borini or Bent. Bent never was, scoring goals a couple of seasons in a row makes you a good player for the club, not a legend. IMO.
