I am telling you first, here and now, we have signed a gem, having watched absolutely no Standard Legins football whatsoever, or even heard of him before last week, I feel confident that Tony Wattkins will prove to be the Andy Hunt to Igor Ventilation.
Or how about... "he is from Belgium so must be good as Roland is 8th richest Flemish speaker in the world and a distant cousin of Prince Albert of Antwerp."
Not sure on him TBH, but his in our team now so will wish him well and hope he turns out to be half decent
Yep Leftbehind, you speak for me. He's one of us now, and as long as he put's whatever past he has behind him, he get's my support. Now can we buy a decent championship striker to replace Church please?
I think he will prove many of us wrong. You cannot take a Glaswegian who gels his hair (despite it being naturally greasy anyway) anywhere outside the uk. Of course, he found Belgium too culturally advanced, he would struggle to score goals anywhere they have the sun or cutlery. I think we have a guy here with some goals in him. Lets give him a chance.
Just watched his interview, and he did not come across as someone with a bad attitude, just a young lad who made a mistake going to Belgium. He did start to gibber a bit when asked about the Blackburn game, but then who doesn't? He's very positve about joining us, not like a player just getting shipped around to suit Roland's whim, so Typical may well be right about him.
I'd be delighted if Watt did the same job for us that Clive Mendonca did, though I don't quite think my ageing ticker could stand another "Sunderland", hat trick at Wembley or not. The jury must, in fairness, be out on Tony Watt until he has had a chance to show what he can do. Firstly, he must show that he is prepared to work for the team. Skill is one thing and he may well have that, but it is worthless without a desire to work hard and selflessly. Once he has shown application and desire, he must then convince us of his skill. If he has it, it will show through, if not, then he will have to work even harder still to improve. It's a tall order and the omens have so far not been good, but they could be wrong. Let's give the bloke a chance. Whether he is accepted and becomes a hero, or fails dismally and is quickly sent packing to the Turkish second division is entirely up to him.
RD doesn't have team in the Turkish Second Division yet (though give him time). I think you mean Hungary or the Spanish Second Division.
No, I meant the Turkish second division. Even Duchatelet would run out of places on the network to indulge a failure sooner or later and have to sell him. Please don't presume to correct me when I know exactly what I mean.
I am very impressed with Tony Watt. As I said in my headline he will be a very good player for us. I knew this because that moron Reams said he wouldn't.
Agreed. I was very worried by the signing of Watt, due to the extrerme rubbishing by Reams, whose opinion I respected, and who claimed to have seen him play many times and said he would be the worst signing in the club's history. I had always respected Paul's views , partly because of his dad and partly because he claimed thast he himself was a respected scout who watched lots of European football and knew everything there was to know about these obscure players of whom the rest of us had never heard .But he's blown his credibility for good over his vilification of Watt. The guy is shaping up to the best signing in recent memeory
What impresses you most about him, out of interest ? It can't be the goal scoring record (1) to date.
We were told of course by Belgium's no 1 authority on football, politics, and cross dressing that Tony was and I quote "the worst ever signing ...blown off the ball by the wind...unable to read the game..." Ironically, but perhaps predictably, for anyone that does not drink paint thinner these reports were wildly inaccurate and perhaps generated by a healthy mix of talking out of arse, fray bentos and kronenberg.
