So what`s wrong with him loaning the club say half the league money? He`s guaranteed to get it back in a few months and we need it now. I`m not convinced the boardroom are earning their keep. Far from it.
The problem is, in the PL, to some extent you have to speculate to accumulate. You can't stand still. Some signings come off, some don't. We need to be lucky and have one that does. We are on the back foot as it stands at the minute. Coincidentally, just right smack bang in the middle of a transfer window. We need change, invigoration, stimulus. There are only 3 options, change the management, change (as in add to) the squad, or to nothing. Don't see the first happening, not yet anyway. So go with the second. Because do nothing really isn't an option for us at the minute.
Unless something is seen to be done this window, then serious questions need to be asked. Questions of Poyet, Congerton, Short and Byrne & Co. All of them. They are all individually and collectively responsible. As you say, doing nothing is not an option. If we are relegated because of inaction there will be hell on, and rightly so.
The above is true, I work with a guy who is a close business associate of Shorts, he basicly said the above to me last week along with this. "If Ellis's interest in football could be measure on a scale of 1 to 10 at the moment he is at 1. I was gutted when I heard this, The guy I know is 100% reliable too.
I have done, I even suggested he tell Ellis to meet me at some point and I would give him a "fans" view of whats going on. Can't see that happening though.
I have the feeling and this is just based on the conversation we had. Short likes Gus, he is going to see how he gets on this season, having a full season with the club. If he manages us well and we finish close to the top ten (12th 13th etc..). Then in the summer he will go again and make an investment.

The striker has spoken about a ‘mad’ twenty four hours and said that he knows Harry Redknapp and QPR were interested in him. please log in to view this image However, speaking to The Guardian, Defoe admits he was surprised and that he laughed when seeing on TV that he might be going to St.James’ Park. The striker hasn’t ruled out returning to the Premier League in the January window despite claiming he’s happy at Toronto FC, despite the lower level of football. Jermain Defoe on transfer deadline activity; “Your agent phones you and says: ‘Right, this club has just called me – blah-blah-blah, they want to speak to Toronto. They want to do a deal – either a loan or something permanent’.” Going to QPR; “As a player you are just sitting back, not really knowing what’s going on. Then on Sky Sports News, on deadline day, I was going to QPR. The transfer talk kicked off and it was crazy. “Harry [Redknapp] wanted me. I remember speaking to Harry months ago and he said: ‘Yeah, in the off-season you’re going to come train and play for us and score goals.” ‘Jermain Defoe might be going to Newcastle’; “But I was at home seeing other things – like ‘Jermain Defoe might be going to Newcastle’. I’m thinking: ‘What? That’s news to me.’ It was mad. “I can’t say what’s going to happen (in January) because I really don’t know, but I like Toronto. It’s a really nice city. And it’s amazing when the sun’s out.” It paints a bit of a strange mental picture of players, just like fans, sitting and watching all the Sky nonsense on deadline day and laughing at the made up stories.
Sunderland are eyeing Ajax's Danish midfielder Lasse Schone. Schone, 28, has made it clear he will not sign a new deal and Ajax might sell before his contract runs down. The versatile international has been with the Dutch giants for two years, whom he joined from NEC in 2012. Schone would give the Black Cats a much-needed goalscoring threat from midfield or wide. He has netted 20 times in 70 appearances in Amsterdam.
http://m.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/arsenal-defender-on-trial-at-sunderland-1-7060311 ARSENAL centre-half Semi Ajayi is on trial with Sunderland and impressed in a run-out for the Under-21s yesterday. Ajayi played the full 90 minutes for the U21s at the Academy of Light in yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Norwich and caught the eye with an assured performance in defence. The 21-year-old joined the Gunners on a free transfer in the summer of 2013 and has been on the bench this season, although he is yet to make his first-team bow for Arsene Wenger’s men. Sunderland are now taking a closer look at Ajayi, with his Arsenal contract due to expire in the summer.

But with Arsene Wenger keen on bringing in a defender during this window and Ajayi's deal running out, Gus Poyet is casting an eye.

Arsenal struggling and he couldn`t get on the pitch. Now Wenger would rather let him go and replace him? They got him on a free and he`s coming to us on a free. Doesn`t sound like he`s quality to me.
West Bromwich Albion Want Fiorentina Full-Back Join the Forza Italian Football writing team in 2015. Think you know Calcio? APPLY NOW!!! please log in to view this image West Bromwich Albion are interested in signingFiorentina defender Marcos Alonso during the January transfer window. The 24-year-old former Real Madrid player has featured regularly for the Viola in Serie A this season, but could be tempted back to England. The Daily Mail are reporting new West Brom boss Tony Pulis is an admirer of the Spanish full-back and would be interested in taking him to The Hawthorns. Fiorentina could be persuaded to part with the former Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland player, either on loan or as a permanent transfer, if the deal is acceptable for all parties involved. Alonso has made 19 appearances this season, helping the Gigliati challenge for a European berth under Vincenzo Montella.
Remember what we all though about Vito, though. We all thought the same about him, non. I.e. Not up to scratch. I don't think his blip earlier this season is a permanent loss of form....
According to reports in Italy, Marcos Alonso is set for a move away from Fiorentina with a possible return to Sunderland on the cards. The report claims that the Italian club are already working on a transfer for the player but that the negotiations would not be concluded until the end of the season, with a view to a move in the Summer transfer window. A fee of around £5m has been suggested, with one Italian reporter claiming a deal has already been struck that will see Alonso leave in June to an unnamed club. Sunderland Eyeing Serie A Pair? Sunderland have been linked with two players currently plying their trade in Serie A
Alonso isn't the only player from Serie A to be linked with a move to Sunderland, as Juan Sanchez Mino of Torino has also been mentioned as a player who is said to be interesting Poyet. The left footed midfielder, who can also play central midfield and left back, could be leaving Torino in the near future after news emerged of the player's entourage travelling to Europe to try and push through a move for the 25-year-old. Sanchez Mino only signed for il Toro in the summer, when he was sold by Boca Juniors in an unsuccessful attempt to purchase then Sunderland striker Nacho Scocco, but has struggled to acclimatise to Italy. Torino have not given up on the player however and are willing to loan him out but would prefer to do so to another Italian side to help the player adapt to Serie A. Which may disappoint both Sunderland and Deportivo La Coruna, who have reportedly enquired about signing the player on loan.
