    #36 - Tarka the Otter?
    #40 - Ritchie Morgan.

Just found an interesting statistic. Out of all the managers we've had, only Kenny Hibbitt (47.37%) has a better percentage win rate than Russell Slade (46.67%). For info, Solskjaer - 30% and MM - 43.2 (not sure what it was just for the year we were promoted).

Nin - I thought that first photo you stuck up was a very young Gibbo, but he couldn't have been that young when he came to us from Cov.

How about that little winger we had about the same time in the early 70's, Tony Villars?

I did say it could be Tony Villars from the early 70's, but it must have been an early photo of him.

Just found this one of him with Jimmy Andrews and now I'm not sure sure - could it be the same guy?

    Who?
I as a young tit, was standing next to this City local fella getting his autograph when he said to another player "if they sign Charlo I'm fuggin' off!" Not saying which Charlo though!
They did and he signed for Minxy's team.

Another City international, scored the goal to send us up to the old First Division in 59-60 season.
Graham Moore, left us for Manchester United...cheeky buggers!

CCFCremote has now posted the video of the goal so that should assist naming this one.

To be honest, I could have made that lay off.

Buchannan produced that sort of strike a couple of times a season though. All down to timing. Quite a small bloke (size 6 feet apparently), but a kick like a mule! He could be delicate though and could make a pass dead weight.

Wayne Hughes is the answer I think.

Frank Rankmore. Is correct Simbo, he was referring to John Charles...but I bet you knew that too!
Wayne Hughes yes, couldn't think of his name but definitely him!

John Buchanan's boot size was a mere six. Now they do say your shoe size has a bearing on the size of one's appendage. Not to reveal my source as what goes on tour etc., but suffice it to say that Peter Rodriques, another fan's favourite was 'erm a legendary size apparantly! I'm talking big here.
All right I can hear you say "Okay Masky, what's your shoe size pal eh?" Well it's a very wide 10...there, secrets out!

Rodrigues was born in Cardiff, Wales, and originally turned out for his local schools. He went on to be selected for both Cardiff Schoolboys and for Welsh schoolboys, before signing for Cardiff City as a professional in May 1961. Rodrigues, known as "Big Boy Pete" almost left the side before ever making a professional appearance for the club when Newport County offered £500 to take him to Somerton Park, but the offer was turned down by Cardiff. He went on to make his debut in a 3-3 draw with Southampton in September 1963, and for the next three seasons he was virtually ever-present in the side. But Rodrigues was unhappy with the standard of football at the club and decided to leave.

Was he the last former City player (only former City player?) to captain a FA Cup winning team [for Southampton in '76]?

Jimmy Scoular did for Newcastle but he never played for the City, just managed them.

Ninian, I am sure he was the last City former player to lift the cup as captain, can't think of anyone else. Fancy being frustrated by poor City football, we had to stay and stick it out!

Before my time, just prior to Big Don Murray was Captain Danny Malloy, who has died aged 84. Always sad to see old city players pass on. My father used to rate this tough player. God bless Danny boy!

    image.jpg

    Danny Malloy
225 appearances for the bluebirds, only one goal, bet it was a good one though!

Beginning his senior career at Dundee, Malloy eventually moved to Cardiff City in December 1955 for a fee of £17,000 as a replacement for Stan Montgomery.[2] He made his debut against Charlton Athletic soon after and became a mainstay of the side for several years. He was quick in making his mark as a footballing hard man, playing against Middlesbrough on 11 January 1958 he came up against prolific striker Brian Clough. Clough had been verbally riling Malloy throughout the match and as play went towards the Middlesbrough end Malloy swung a punch at Clough leaving him sprawled out on the pitch.[3]

Although never a prolific scorer, at Cardiff Malloy was more famed for his scoring feats at the wrong end of the field, scoring a total of fourteen own goals during his six years at the club, including netting two in one match during a 3–2 victory over Liverpool on 22 August 1959. His only league goal for the club came from the penalty spot in the 1956–57 season in a 3–1 defeat to Manchester United. He took over as captain of the side during the 1959–1960 season as Cardiff gained promotion to the top flight as runners up to Aston Villa.[4] At the end of the season in 1961 he could not agree terms with the club and left to become player-manager of Doncaster Rovers.[5] He spent less than one season in charge at Belle Vue as the club spent struggled against relegation, taking charge of his last match on 17 March 1962 against Darlington.[6] He later finished his career at Clyde.

Danny Malloy was one of several names that stick in my mind from the late 50's that my dad always kept on about. I can remember my dad mentioning players like him, Ron Stitfall at the back and Joe Bonson and Tappy up front.

Never got to see any of them (except maybe a vague recollection of Tappy), and the only one mentioned on here of that era or just after I do definitely remember seeing was Peter Rodrigues - must have been about '64/65.

Surely can't be many of that 50's old guard around now and Danny Malloy's passing makes it one less - RIP Danny.
