Hear where you're coming from mate and time will tell. One things certain, we need goals and this lad can score them.

We still need some creativity imo or am I being greedy?

You're not being greedy fella, it's what we need.

Mate, we need more creativity, we still need more pace. We still need more intelligent footballers. Gus is far from getting the attacking 7 he wants for his system. Purse strings have been kept tight. At last some steps in the right direction at last.

Two prices doing the rounds is it's either 3m + Jozy(or 6m if jozy can't agree terms) or 3m or Jozy. One things for certain, we'll never know as our transfers are always undisclosed. <laugh><doh>

I've been away for a couple of weeks so missed games, but i'm still convinced we have a starting role for Alvarez and i'm still convinced he's not shown his best yet either. Giaccy can also pass it about but do we have room for both?

    We need to go imo
    Pants
    O'shea------Brown
    Jones----------------------------------------PVA
    Seb----Catts
    AJ-----------Alvarez----------Giacc
    Defoe
Cracking team that but pace needed in the summer.

    But I think We'll go

    Pants
    O'shea-------Brown
    Jones--------------------------------------PVA
    Catts
    Seb------Gomez
    AJ/Alvarez----------------Giacc/Defoe
    Fletch/Wickham

With the inside forwards interchanging like Gus likes to do.

Don't want to piss on your chips lads, he's a step up from Jozy, but in his last five seasons at Spurs, he scored 47 goals, average of just under ten a season. He's scored 11 this season, but Danny Graham would be prolific there. £70000 a week for the next three and a half years he'll be 36 when his contract ends. Do you think he's going to get better, or worse?

The cons outweigh the pros in my eyes, but at least your club is doing something.

Jermain Defoe could be a very good addition to a Sunderland team that is staring the grim image of relegation dead in the eye this season.

Since the news broke late last night that Sunderland have agreed a deal with Toronto FC for Jozy Altidore there has been debates, heated arguments and strong exchanges on Twitter, Facebook and internet football forums.

It wouldn’t be Sunderland without a transfer to whip up the public into disarray and confrontation would it?

It’s a strange time to support Sunderland as everyone is demanding we break the bank and sign quality to get us away from the bottom three, as soon as we make an offer for a player the knives come out and everyone becomes negative and an acting accountant, rather than a supporter who wishes us to succeed in the market to improve the squad.

People need to worry less over the money and view this move as an ambitious one that will hopefully make us stronger and a more attractive option to other transfer targets.

Let’s look at the evidence, it is clear to anyone with vision that Defoe is a quality addition to Sunderland with 11 goals in 19 appearances over in America compared to Jozy’s record of two goals in a total of 68 games.

Defoe has a better all round game, a shot that can take the back of the net off its stands and international experience to help Wickham continue to develop as a striker and not a left winger!

Yes, the reported fee of £14m over a three and a half year contract seems large for a striker who is now 32-years-old, but once you remove Altidore’s ridiculous wage amount of a reported £40,000 a week it may be worth every penny to keep our club in the top flight, again.

Poyet knows that we need goals after seeing eleven draws, six of them being 0-0 and he looks to have turned to a former friend to help his team out this campaign.

Defoe has a great record of scoring on his debut, a bit like Darren Bent (let’s not compare the two yet) and if the signing is concluded on time what a way to return back to the Premier League than by lining up at White Hart Lane against the team he made a name for himself.

No one will be sad to see the departure of Altidore after he was given numerous chances to rectify his woeful non-goal scoring record in the top flight. This move back to the MLS is a good one for Jozy and Sunderland and hopefully we can move on and forget just how bad he really was in a red and white shirt.

Everyone needs to just calm down and look at the facts and ignore the money side of things and see that Lee Congerton, Ellis Short and Gus Poyet are looking to try and keep us afloat in this division by going for proven talent in front of the goal.

Hopefully Poyet can try something different with two strikers playing at the same time as I can’t see Jermain being an impact sub or a lone striker so something with Poyet’s system has to change and this can also be viewed as a good thing.

Let’s hope we can add a few more players and use our one remaining domestic loan to our advantage to create more chances for Defoe, Fletcher and Wickham for the remainder of this season.

This is the formation, we need two DM's and four attackers ahead of them plus overlapping full backs and we just might win a home game or two.[/QUOTE]

And don't forget mate, that reported figure £14m was from the Sun, current trends are quoting £6m, that's not a bad price for a ten goal a season proven striker.
