If he 'stays until he gets the job done' they'll be carrying him out in a box and there will be a lot more than snagging left to do. He'll stay until at least the end of the season, perhaps longer if we stay up, sending out the negative waves. In the meantime he'll be giving his design input on the training ground and stadium, two things he couldn't give a toss about because he won't be here when (if) they are done and frankly he doesn't give a toss about anyway. So he can **** us up long after he's gone, the Redknapp legacy.
Not sure either are options, but for different reasons... Firstly, does Robinson have the experience for the situation we are in? Secondly, pretty sure Howe would never leave top-of the-table Bournemouth - who he has gone on record as saying he wants to take into the PL - plus it's where he is happy after his Burnley nightmare, and has 'his own' very settled squad who are playing for him - for bottom of the table, bookies-favourites-to-go-down Rangers, with all the issues we seem to have with big-personalities, big-wages and small-performances. Both young and keen - the opposite of Harry - but if we were/are in the process of looking for a replacement (and this is the Mirror we are talking about) we might be looking for more experience of the situation - Pulis was probably the obvious choice, but he is like Harry in that he spends, and the board are looking like after £105m (allegedly) spent so far, the purse strings are well and truly drawn shut. It's a conundrum.
Watching Dyche talking about Ings yesterday was so positive compared to Arry...... chalk and cheese yet they have only 1 point more than us. It just shows its not all about results but the Managers presence and Arry is just taking everyone down with him..............................
I agree it is too late now. I think Harry knows himself that managing in this league gets harder and harder every season and he is struggling with it. I am sure it will be his last season. For me the challenge for anyone managing Rangers at this time is simple ' can I get this group of players to play well enough to accumulate enough points to finish above Leicester, Burnley and Hull/Sunderland? ' and I do not think there is anyone better than Harry around at the moment to help us achieve that goal.
Glen Hoddle: Either a) His coaching style and tactical nous are being repressed and he would come good if HR was gone, or b) He is actually as clueless as HR and there is no point in keeping him on. Either way an action is required.
Are the board going to financially back a new manager in what's left of the window? Unlikely. Would a new manager feel they need to bring reinforcement's in? Probably. Can't see it happening TBH.
The one plus I will give to Sherwood; when he took the Spurs job last year he certainly rejuvenated some of their players (notably Adebayor). He also started off with a buzz winning 4 of his first 5 games (drawing the other). Will he saves us from relegation? Who knows. Will he bring passion and a bit of enthusiasm? yes.
We don't need to recruit anybody now, or to buy any players. Let Hoddle take over temporarily and review the situation in the summer. Just get rid of Redknapp's negativity.
The thing that surprises me most at the moment is that no one seems to blame the players at all for our current situation. Most teams in the league converted to playing 3-5-2 this season and most have stuck with it. Our players go public saying they don't like it so we were forced to switch. Now we're stuck with 4-4-2 home and away leaving us hopelessly exposed in midfield and everyone blames Harry? Hoddle was brought in to refine the 3-5-2, so what is his worth now that we're playing the oldest and most defunct formation in the game? I'm not saying Harry is blameless, but we've seen ourselves just how the players seem to switch off at times, especially in defence, yet everyone says it's Rednapp's lack of passion. Surely the wages our players are on and the reward of playing in the Premiership should be enough to motivate them? If you look at other teams boards who are in this position, you don't see their fans in meltdown. Can anyone honestly tell me that during the reign of Briattore that they agreed with his policy of sacking managers all the time? Yet the fans seem to have taken his place. Stability is key and if we don't stop the cycle of replacing every manager when things aren't looking great, then we'll be stuck with buying new squads every time and have no players with a vested interest in the club. It doesn't matter what league position we are in, or what league we are in, our problems stem from lack of stability. Does replacing Rednapp bring stability? I can't see that replacing him brings anymore likely hood of survival than if he stays. 5 points separate the bottom half of the table, if we were in 12th with just a few more points would anyone be complaining? A bit of reverse luck and in a couple of weeks we could be 12th, wouldn't all the futile discussions of Rednapp's sacking seem a little bit redundant then? Hold your nerve and back the team, manager and club, then we might just see a reversal in fortunes.
I'm all for stability in the management of the Club. But we need the right Manager first! So it is down to opinions again, re who is the right Manager. I thought we had the right Manager in Colin, I never thought we should have sacked him. But Hughes was a disaster with us and was correctly sacked, all be it way too late, and for me Harry has been worse - he should have gone nearly a year ago now. If the Manager is clearly unable to improve us, there is no point waiting, and Harry is unlikely to become a better Manager now .
So you didn't think Warnock should be sacked? What did he achieve that Harry hasn't? We're in a better position than when Warnock was sacked. Warnock brought in the likes of SWP who to date has cost us over 17 million pounds. So why do you think that Harry should be sacked?
I think we gone through those details many tines before, but in short we are not in a better position now than when Colin was sacked. Colin got us to 9th in the PL on the back of a summer pre-season in front of the PL with no funding and an ownership change, and only a week with new owners and funds to do anything. He also saved us from relegation to League 1 and took us up as Champions in the 2 seasons before that. He was sacked immediately we had our first bad run under him of about 6 weeks only, when we were still in a safe position, and right before the January window when he could have strengthened his squad. Under Harry we were relegated, coming back up was a huge struggle even with a squad most Championship Clubs would dream of. Our win at Wembley shocked him as every one else, he was thinking about his Golf Clubs rather than how to win that that game. His first few weeks with us were good as we stopped leaking goals, since then he has never got us playing with any fluidity, we have the worst defensive record in the league, and we look favourites to go straight back down again.
Totally agree. I mentioned Eddie Howe in a thread a couple of weeks ago. Either of these two would be good and I think they would both jump at the chance. I'm no Harry hater, but I think the time has come. Howe and Robinson are keen, young and want to prove themselves at the highest level. I know TF wants stability, but Harry has been at the helm for over a year and unfortunately, I cannot see him taking us any further. Just lately, Harry couldn't pick his nose, never mind a team that can get a point away from LR.
Well in all likely hood, people will get there wish and Rednapp will probably go sooner rather than later, just as when people wanted rid of Hughes and look how that turned out. Be careful what you wish for! And when it goes wrong again....?
Eddie Howe won't come to us - he's taking Bournemouth up and he's loved there. Karl Robinson has been mentioned several times before - yet on a decent budget at MK Dons hasn't got them in the play offs yet. Not too sure he would be big enough for the job. Karanka at Middlesbrough is doing a good job, but of course McClaren would have been the one...maybe.
Mmm.................I can think of Man Utd and Hull, although I think Hull played a flat back four the last time I saw them. Not sure many others play that system. Nearly all play with 3 central midfielders though and that always leaves us outnumbered at home when we play 4-4-2. However, the 4-4-2 system has helped Charlie to score so many goals. I get your point about it being the players' fault and that we need stability, but Harry looks so tired and lacking in any of his old motivation that I can only see him taking us down. I really hope I'm wrong and I'll gladly eat humble pie if Redknapp stays and keeps us up.
Me personally would prefer Hoddle to step up to the plate, with Sir Les as assistant rather than Sherwood, at least Hoddle has the expierience.
The players seem happy and together? We haven't heard of any unrest or dislike of Rednapp from the players like we did when things were going wrong under Warnock and Hughes. Could it just be the fans expecting too much, worrying this is de ja vu and worried the end result will be the same? It was never going to be as easy as some would like it to be and there's no amount of money you could spend would make it any easier. There are 9 other teams in the same boat as us, within 5 points of each other. Apart from our away record, there is nothing to distinguish us from the others, apart from it seems our fans who are falling apart. Our team still seemed determined, it seems it's too many of our fans who are giving up on them and that's something I never thought I'd see as a Rangers supporter! In the past being in this position would of been considered god sent. But even at it's worst the fans never turned on the team or the manager like so many are today. I just can't fathom it that's all?
