Agreed, what it was was an absolutely brilliant, textbook 'strong' ball-winning tackle. The fact it has been reviewed and still considered worthy of a red card is absolutely ridiculous, it simply beggars belief
I think it's the way the game's going to be honest. Even a couple of seasons ago the ref wouldn't have given it a second glance, now any tackle which takes a player blind-sided and also includes the trailing leg swinging seems to be in real trouble no matter that it is a perfectly safe (and on this occasion seriously good) tackle.
Haven't the FA been in trouble in the past for how rarely they overturn decisions? Can't find anything online unfortunately to back that up though, except other people moaning on forums! I think if you can make the vaguest argument that it's justified, that's all the FA need. They don't want to be seen as significantly disagreeing with their own refs, it's not an independent panel.
Yes, they have. The FA has the worst appeals process in the country, and there are question marks surrounding its legality under EU law (because footballers should be able to take appeals further). Something ridiculous like 95% of appeals fail. This is worse than appeals courts in many undemocratic countries. It is substantially worse than, say, the Employment Appeals Tribunal, which is something like the equivalent body.
And after all that we're meant to show 'respect' to referees. F**k the bastards is what I'd say. This was a ref who Keith Hackett considered unfit for purpose, which is why he was demoted from the PL. It's a farce, a bloody farce.
Here's some detail, though it doesn't cover the EU law point. Will have to try to work out where that comes from. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16430580
They've seriously not rescinded? The FA are an absolute ****ing joke there is no credibility in that decision!
Don't talk such squit Dave. You've gorn soft boy. If he misplaces a pass in the warm up, sub him before the game starts. let him know straight away he will have to work hard and improve
Damn right, enough of this retrospective criticism! String him up if his partings not straight I say!
