Going in with a low first offer is 'buying stuff 101'. People need to take a step back from stories on Sky Sports News, it's really Tabloid TV. We should really note the language being used in order to determine any truth. Sayings such as "Liverpool are believed to of put in a bid for *player name*". This doesnt make it so. Neither does "Sky Sports understand that...." etc etc. Its their way of saying what they've heard (or their own opinion) rather than stating a definite fact.
I couldn't find that one with Babels head in it! So the other one had to do. When I typed babelcopter into google it only gave me that picture with the sulks head in it. I wonder if he brought the babelcopter with him to Germany???
That is correct. But fancy having a Test Paper where a Club pays £35M for Andy Carroll. It was only meant to be a theoretical
Can we have this quote framed and hung in the Anfield Arms? It's my understanding that the club received an email from eBay today about another player who fits our account settings. Kenny has asked Damien Comolli to forward it to everybody else involved in negotiations because it's alleged he fell asleep previously so missed the deadline for other bids.
i think this WUM, because that is what he is, actually does have a point. IF you leave aside the wummish aspect to this. so lets be fair. 1. the list is interesting as it puts 6 STRONGLY linked players into the EXACT positions we would be bidding on firmly i nthe camp of failed buys. 2. all were linked in the press, but to my knowledge and indeed everyone elses it seems no FORMAL bids were ever submitted. so lets look at it critically, an 18 year old striker, a player we all knew in feburary was going to utd, cb who was a a utd fan and cost nearly 20mil, a 20 year old cb we were never linked to unitl his medical was compelte at city.... and one play we may have bid for. Lets be frank, downing follows the exact same pattern as carroll and indeed henderson. thier clubs release the fact a bid was recieved in order to make us increase the bid.... adam is the same it seems. So the honest unbiased opinion must be that ADAM and DOWNING would seem to be our targets if their clubs are to be beleived, but every other "failed" bid in fact never had a bid in the first place. I think this just sums up agent, press and the summer break nicely. we're all bored and the press are mad to sell papers and feed us lines..... that said the circumstantial evidence does add up to rather a nice wum article doesn't it?
The Downing bid does in fact follow in the same way as the ones for Henderson and Carroll and even Luis Suarez. However there is a difference between these and a lot of the earlier ones mentioned.Liverpool have shown genuine interest, and its MORE than media speculation.Liverpool have been linked to as we speak 70+ players.I reckon Kenny hasn't even heard of half of them. However even though we haven't signed some of the players,we've been linked with, its encouraging that the standard of player we are linked with is higher than it was in both the summer of 2009 and 2010.Last summer for example we were linked with Paul Sharner,Zoltan Gera and Danny Murphy and Carlton Cole.I reckon if Hodgson had remained boss, and Torres was sold to Chelsea for £30 million,we would have paid £15 million for either Carlton Cole or Bobby Zamora. We wouldn't have got Suarez and definitely not Andy Carroll. Even then,Andy Carroll has his critics.Kenny when he signed Andy Carroll signed potential.Theres also another reason. There is only one player of his type in Europe, his age,and thats Fernando Llorente.Of his type, theres Adebayor,Drogba,Pavluchecko, but these are all far older. There is also the premium on English players. If there wasn't a premium on English players,Everton wouldn't have got £27 million for Rooney,Spurs £19 million for Carrick,Portsmouth £17.5 million for Glen Johnson,Everton £24 million for Lescott,Sunderland £24 million for Bent or £16 million for Henderson and Aston Villa £26 million for Milner.
This needs to be included in english lessons in classrooms throughout the country as it's one of the best examples of an oxymoron I've seen. (I know this has been ripped a bit already but I've come in late).
