Biggest mistake was the signing of Ben Arfa. Not only did it not work out on the field, but I suspect with the attitude that was going on behind the scenes probably didn't help whilst he was around the other players either.
I loved Boydy for his sheer endeavour and work rate, but anyone who thinks keeping him would've made a major difference to our current position must be daft.
Boyd is a workhorse, however, I'd take a (albeit fit) Diame over him any day. No mistakes as far as I'm concerned, we all know what happened with Bullard, would have been a massive risk not to learn from that experience.
boyd was the mistake he might of sat on our bench but everytime he played he offered something.. he's the worst sale in our history imho for only £3m to a relegation rival.. long went to a team battling europe places but boyd. he was always decent, i can't understand it he was no superstar, i remember recalling ****ing hell boyds a machine, how he runs.. his crossing.. his scoring.. he is the biggest mistake he always contributed to a goal we scored.. i honestly think he's the missing link of our team, comparing him to diame? diff position.. always liked the gypsy **** we thought ben arfa would take his role
and when boyds team finish above us we shall all see boyd was ****ing brilliant, we changed it all we tried to buy a better team for lots of money the money flapped we had no desire, we had no idea what to do... now honey, watch as our team plays under the worst manager, while west brom and palace get a new manger, everyones scuffed while we stay with the same guy guy mowbray, he says the truth, we have no proof that we are better than without boyd we should take roids, cause we have no boyd, what can else we do? this is the worst run we've ever been on
>This< I just wonder what Long feels, he is now, as he was at WBA only a bench player, whereas with us he played every week. But for us it was a deal we couldn't turn down.
The Austin one was a disappointing one at the time, but if the medics had reservations then you have to accept that. The other two at the time were good business. Bruceys done well in overall terms on transfers, but no one will get it 100% right all the time. Clearly we've bought a couple of dud strikers in Prosser and Sagbo so you have to question what the hell we are doing buying 'potential' abroad when the he has admitted we don't have the scouting network in place across Europe!
It was impossible to turn down 12 million for Long, now he's left there's this myth that he was amazing and the answer to all our prayers, when really we struggled hugely with him in the side in the second half of the season. He's never scored double figures in a Premier League season and wasn't going to for us. Boyd had to be sold at 3 million, it was a great offer and at the time we seemed to have plenty of better options but now due to us being unlucky injuries it looks like he could have been handy, but the sale was the right thing to do at the time. Austin failed a medical and went on to be injured for the majority of his first season for QPR.
Shane Long sits on their bench & has scored a similar amount as Hernandez. Whose considered a flop. He'd have deffo kept us up single handedly.
Why would Long be classed as a 'bad sale'? He's scored twice and you got 13m for him. It's a deal, it's a steal. It's sale of the ****in' century.
He offered much more to the team than Hernandez has so far in terms of his harrying and work ethic, he also had a decent scoring record for us. Was 12m really that good of a sale when it costs just as much if not more to replace him with a player of similar ability?
Long- £12m was a hell of a offered. Although I liked Long, brought a lot to the team. Worked well with Jelavic. Boyd- Great deal for the club. He struggled to get in the team last year. Austin- You have to back the medical team. We already had our hands burnt once. Hindsight is wonderful thing.
Apart from Austin weren't we also linked with Harry Kane (pre-17 goals for Spurs) I seem to remember the expert opinion on here was we shouldn't touch him with a barge-pole.
