How about looking at a loan striker form a mid-table championship club who aren't in danger of being relegated or are out of the promotion running. For example Cardiff's Le Fondre or Nicky Maynard, or Huddersfield's Nahki Wells
I would be happy to see us sign Mahrez, but he's not a striker? Ulloa is okay, but he certainly wouldn't be top of my shopping list.
So if we sign him then all we need is a top class penalty taker and a change in our joint moral objection to diving.
I was thinking Vydra might be a good signing for us, however judging by comments on twitter he doesn't seem that popular at watford!
Toronto have dropped their asking price for Jermaine Defoe, wages might be an issue but at least he won't cost an arm and a leg in transfer funds. Sebastian Giovinco is also available, not sure how much he'll cost though.
Wasnt he just purchased last year by juventus for 7.6 million and is on 100k euros a week? how is he a realistic target?
Brucey realistically can only bring strikers in on loan, and ideally we need 2 in this week now. I'm not saying Sanogo is the answer, but given were we are he's better than what we have available for next weekend given the injury issues we have. Then for me get Defoe in, he's proven at this level and whilst the finances may be an issue, if its a loan with a view to signing a perm if we stay up then that suits both parties I would hope.
I've seen that too, hopefully if they can get him off their payroll with a deal in place for the Summer that would hopefully work albeit I accept it may be dependent upon Toronto striking a similar deal on their inbound replacement. I'm sure with his goal scoring record Defoe wouldn't have a problem getting a club if the worst happens to us come the Summer, and we then aren't able to complete a permanent move. Where we are at the moment we don't want unproven, unfit and untried strikers, we need a couple to hit the ground running!
I've seen quite a few people suggest that we should look in the lower leagues and find a few gems, just found a list of young players that we could be interested in: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...eter-s-Matt-Grimes-eight-potential-stars.html I'd love us to sign Dele Alli from MK Dons, looks like the real deal, scored 11 goals already this season. If Maguire was worth £2.5m, then it will probably take £3/4m to take him off their hands, if we have that kind of money.
All well and good but could you see Defoe signing a relegation clause? If not we could be left in a similar position to the Bullard scenario.
We could have got Britt Assombalonga from The Posh in the summer, for half what we paid for Hernandez, I seem to remember he was a popular option here at the time.
Wolves are about to sign Benik Afobe from Arsenal for £2m, we should try and hijack the deal, he's way better than Sanogo.
Yet if we paid £5m rising to £8m for a league 1 striker, most of our fans would of been kicking off for paying so much. Hernandez is a good player, he tore Everton apart for god sake. Let him and Jelavic get back from their injury and play them upfront, both would be able to score at least 10 goals before the end of the season, no need to panic.
