Aim for the sky (3rd) and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling (4th) and you'll stay on the floor.

Welll I dunno utd lose one (and draw 2 away)

I think it's an over reaction to assume it's wide open just like uir over reacted by claiming the title was on and Chelsea were imploding just prior to Christmas

What's it now 12 from utd to the top?

So you think it's unreasonable for us to aim for 3rd which is only 2 points ahead of 4th?

    Logic <ok>

With this result it really does put Southampton in a nice place to kick in through the new year

39 points is still nowhere yet they need and other 31 to 35 points to get 4th off 17 games so that's say 11 wins out of 17.... Should be doable if they really focus

3rd historically takes an absolute bare minimum of 70 points, you'd need 38 points from 17 games which would mean you'd have to win 11, draw 5 and lose 1 as an absolute minimum - never going to happen

If they keep Wanywama and Schneiderlin fit, they will get top 4 - that is how crucial a quality midfield is to any team.

Or just win 13 out of 17 and lose the ready... Same difference

Without a top top striker arriving for 50 mil it ain't happening

You're confusing logic with thinking that football is a simple maths formula, along the lines of 2+2=4 when the reality is very different. 2 points now may very well be 5 points next week or a role reversal of 1 point the next. Not everything remains constant. You have West Ham and Everton coming up, and the Southampton game will probably be even harder. As I said, overhauling 3 teams (all of whom are more than capable of extending their lead) to finish 3rd is going to be a tall order (I never said unreasonable iirc, but I don't think it would be unfair to say so). And as I said before, overhauling 2 teams is going to be difficult also. So I really don't understand your response.

So what you're saying is that we targets/objectives are pointless because of the ever changing environment?

Fair enough - I just hope LFC win all of the remaining games of the season. <ok>

No not saying that at all. I just think you don't like hearing what I'm saying.

  17. If we can get at least eleven points from our next four games we'll be well and truly back in the race <ok>

We've just got the three cup games inbetween the next two leagues games mind <whistle>

The result is a kick in the gonads for the mancs, to our great joy.

But it is probably not such a great result if we are targetting fourth. This season, we could expect Spurs, Arsenal, The mancs and ourselves to be in the mix for CL places. Southampton being there further complicate matters. Instead of being 4 points off the CL places we are now 5 points.
