I was going to provide a cheeky translation, but I didn't want to rub Schad's nose in it. :emoticon-0105-wink:

So I finally saw the Battle of Five Armies. And it was good. Very good. Not as good as the LoTR films (well, maybe RoTK) but still a very good action flick. The Battle of Five Armies was suitably epic, way more so than Pelenor Fields.

    My only issues were:

Not enough archery, but then there was lots of that in RoTK (nice bit when the archers fire a volley to take out the troll though)

Not enough elves, but then there were lots of them in TTT

Waaaaaay too much Legolas and Turiel, and generally the one to one battles were good, but I prefer big epic battles to one to one fights

Also, when the women of Laketown decided to take up arms and join the battle was, from a feminist point of view, excellent. Shows that women aren't just weak and helpless (and by that I mean ordinary women, not like lead characters like Eowyn). So I was disappointed you don't actually get to see any of the women fighting. Maybe that'll be something they include in the extended edition.

But I did like Dain (Billy Connoly wasn't it?) and the the formation maneuvers at the start of the battle by the dwarves in particular.

Also, Saruman was a bad ass. Nice to see him showing his power.

And what, exactly, has any of this to do with The Hobbit? (or The Two Towers). Why should a classic of English children's literature be concerned about feminist perspectives. Hardly a shortage of "kick-ass" females in faux historical and fantasy movies.
An extended edition? Give me strength! Three 3 hour films not enough for a small children's book? By that reckoning, the Lord of the Rings story should have occupied about 12 movies.

Lovely video. Dogs and elephants are both social animals, so not surprising that such a friendship developed. Thanks for posting.

Not sure if all the Law students have departed these shores, but...here's a law related question if anyone know's the answer.

Is it legal to turn away a group of people from a club because there are too many men in the group? Happened to me last night. I've heard about it, but never experienced it before.

Of course. Happens all the time. Entirely at club's discretion.

Seems ridiculous to me to be refused purely based on gender. Discretion is surely deciding if someone is too drunk or aggressive to come in, not blatant sexism.

No one wants to go to a club filled with men, unless they're young girls and all the men are rich. Here in Brighton, they turn people away from clubs based on their postcode! Clubs can be as discriminatory as they want.

I don't get why clubs can be discriminatory, nobody else can be?

This still sounds like it should apply though.

'It is illegal for anyone providing goods, facilities or services in the UK to discriminate because you are a man or woman.

Examples of goods, facilities and services include, shops, financial services such as banking, leisure facilities such as pubs and clubs, entertainment and transport.'

Though it obviously doesn't for some reason if this is a common thing.
