He is there to try and boost their profile in Europe apparently. Can't see why he would be the man for the job like.

Have to disagree there mate, Washy is probably 50/50, if anything maybe 60/40 toward Newcastle. It's always been like that. Appreciate the sentiment though honey x

Yeah, got to remember places like that have not always been a district of Sunderland.

    NE postcode <whistle>

Not that it matters like but it's really kinda attached to Gateshead via Springwell and alot of people moved from Gateshead and Sunderland when it expanded in the 70's.

It'd be very harsh to call you lot Mackems, thats for sure. Mackems should really be only people within the city of Sunderland and not the district.

Our lass, her dad and her bro are all avid Sunderland supporters but HATE being called mackem's. Her dad correctly says the word 'mackem' was a derogatory word coined by geordies. He's Washington and proud, not geordie, not mackem, just a Sunderland supporter from Washington.

Think I'd rather be referred to as a Mackem than a Pit Yacker, even if I were from outside Sunderland.

People from pit villages all over the NE are referred to as pit yackers, it ain't just a Northumberland thing. I know a lad from Easington who uses the term all the time.

People from Guernsey are know as Donkeys by the way. Not sure if I'd ever said that, coz i'm sure some of you have probably wondered why that is in my username.

    Haha, learn something new everyday.

When someone calls me a Geordie I correct them. I only call myself a Geordie when its to describe me being a fan of Newcastle as apposed to being from Newcastle.

Know a bloke from Middlesborough who claims to be a Geordie. <doh>

He does sound like one. To be fair. A bit. Supports Man U, obviously.

From Southampton, live in Newcastle now. Always supported Newcastle, since my whole family are from here. Quite a few Geordie's in Southampton mind.

Geordie mam South Tyneside dad, lived in Hebburn all my life so far

I'd say South Tyneside is split 65-35 Newcastle-Sunderland.

I know one other toon fan in Guernsey, he originates from South Tyneside which is I think 60/40 % in favour of Newcastle. I work in South Shields and my colleagues are of the opinion if you live in Shields you're a Mackem. (don't live there by the way).

Yes but as you will know a "shamed" Tory councillor had to resign for speaking out against that. He tweeted about it and caused a minor scandal.
