So all season Gus Poyet seems to play the one formation constantly, without changing it, regardless of who we are playing and what stage of the match.

Now even the most casual fan who plays a bit of Football Manager (not saying that is anything like being a real manager) would know that you work on formations during the week based on the opposition. Normally a team would have 3 formations drilled into the team, one for defender, one for attacking and one spare.

Take for example, today's game you would look at Liverpool and see the frailties at the back. Over the course of the week surely you would plan to cause their defence problems, and substitute the DM for a more attacking one.Today Gus played his usual formation which encourages opposition attack us constantly.
The formation used today would be best suited against the big teams away.

I have seen Gus complain about not scoring enough, but the problem is not the players (they are somewhat to blame),but Gus's formation and set up. If he wants us to score, then change it. Its not rocket science. Again I will say even the most of casual fans will realise Gus needs to change it around.

It makes me wonder what on earth he does during the week, and whether he actually plans each match or just simply says "f**k it, who do I have available to fit into my formation?"

With a heavy heart I do have to say time is running out for Gus. I'm not one to want a manager sacked but he seems tactically clueless. If he doesn't change more boo's will ring around the SOL, we will be fighting all season and he will be sacked!

    Rant Over.

I'm a big fan of Gus, but today, not only having Graham on the bench but then bringing him on has sent up the first flare for me. The guy is an oxygen thief, he's not fit to wear our shirt.

I wasn't to bothered with Graham coming on. Nothing was happening and we needed another striker on. Unfortunately he brought Wickham off too. What he should of done is kept two strikers on as their defence is s**t.

And to be honest Graham wasn't too bad, made a few good runs, held the ball up better than Altidore and seems to want to make an effort. I wouldn't be against him having a run in, considering our strikers are doing so great at the moment...

It's all about opinions mate, for me I wouldn't even allow him to train with the kids, just cancel his contract and say cheerio

Graham is no worse than Whicks to be honest, take away the purple patch at the back end of last season and their records are equally as abysmal. To be fair to Whicks he has been played out wide most of the time, and we do not have a lone striker type on our books, hence we need two "strikers" on the pitch or we do not look like scoring, and as we don't play that way, it is a problem that Gus seems unable to address. We needed to put pressure on them today from the off, but a lethargic start gave them all the confidence they needed to claim the easiest win you will ever get in this league, worrying times ahead methinks.

Gus isn't happy with his squad so plays a boring, negative brand of football because that's all he trusts them to do.

    That's my impression.

Stay up this year and he's had several windows with Lee to improve the squad and I'll start judging him on style of play next year.

It is ****ing dull mind but it seems stable. Let's be happy until we have reason to be unhappy.

I would rather have Jeff Whitley playing with a broken leg than have that useless c*nt Gomez on the pitch. The c*nt is ****ing useless.
I like Gus but if he persists playing him I will be jumping off the Gus bus.

Just to summarise. Gomez is a useless f*cking c*nt.

Eh we had the strikers, Jones, Bendtner, Borini, Wellbeck, Wickham is not a striker I am afraid, not in the premier league. The s*** has it the fan, we all knew big money should have been spent on 2 strikers last summer, but Poyet like the previous 4 managers don't have a clue. Another big crowd let down. And what we never did before was give the ball away or dilly dally, and get caught, and Pantelmon keeps kicking the ball out of play on the left !. I would get Jones back tomorrow if I had the chance.

Must admit I'm not a huge fan. Wouldn't go as far as that but I don't think he's been a good signing.

Does not look like it, to answer the question, one horse for all courses it would seem, and it has worried me for some time. Gus gives players a chance to play their way out of lean spells, sometimes too many chances, as in the cases of Altidore and now Gomez, but it worked in the case of Jos and Lars so we must keep the faith for the time being. We tackle every game the same way and its starting to look very similar to Mon's blueprint and we know what happened there, these are testing times for all.

I agree with this and although I never saw todays match, I can understand where the thread is going and what started it.

It's OK to have a rigid formation and game plan if you are one of the big four and capable of dictating games to whoever lines up against you. We don't have that luxury and for me, we need to adapt our game to suit whoever we are playing. If you're Chelsea or Man City, you dictate the game, unfortunately we're light years away from that so Gus needs to realise this and set up accordingly. He has done it with success in the past. I can see what he's trying to achieve, we just don't have the correct players in the team to make it work.
