Is it me, or have Liverpool failed in bids for 6 different players already?

They have, and here are the 6:

Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Connor Wickham, Savic, Gael Clichy and now Stewart Downing.

Is Liverpool's transfer policy, have no specific targets but bid for anyone who has a chance or is likely to move? They've bidded for 2 CBs, an LB, 2 wingers and a striker... Seems as if players would rather move to other clubs, or Liverpool can't muster those extra funds needed to prise a player away from their team.

You may wish to think so but then you are no more informed than anybodyelse. Plus, what does it matter to you -it's none of your business. So jog-on!

And they don't KNOW either. It's just mere speculation.

Most of it is paper speculation.

I've barely seen any speculation linked us with Cavani. The other two haven't been bidded on by Manchester United or it hasn't been reported by any credible sources, not saying we haven't or I don't want it to happen.

We have however bid for Alexis Sanchez but I think he's joining Barca.

Your little column of links looks very nice but theres one vital link missing,a link from the official MUFC website that backs up the "speculation" in your other links.

Why would the Manchester United website have information on Liverpool FC's failed bids? I don't understand...

I should have replied with your quote, but the information you gave on utd's possible signings is again just speculation until the clubs official website says otherwise.

Well yeah true, but often newspapers report that signings have been done days before the sites get updated. The club's site isn't exactly going to tell people of any failed bids they have... You can actually trust some newspapers and websites when it comes to transfer dealings, especially sky sports and the guardian.

Well ok,if the Downing story is true we could up our bid and he could sign tomorrow,Charlie Adam might also sign.

The bottom line is we're still in July and the transfer window is still open.

As for those players we were supposedly after but never got, well the same can be said of every club(Utd included)that gets a knockback from the player because he wants a better contract before he'll sign,or a club that overprices a player in the buying clubs opinion.

And of course it could just be speculation.

If your first bid is accepted then you are almost certainly paying too much. There are things called negotiation and valuation. We clearly didn't value Conor Wickham at what we were asked to pay, so how did we lose out?

I might think a nice little Volkswagon Golf is the car for me, but if i turn up at the showroom and they want £50k for it i'm probably going to tell them to piss off. The fact that 10 minutes later i see Steve Bruce driving off the forecourt in one is not gonna change my mind. If anything i'm probably going to laugh at the fact he has to open the sunroof to fit his head in.

Oh and the final nail in Sky Sports' credibility for me was this:

"31 Aug 2010 – 1419: Sky Sports report that Liverpool striker Ryan Babel is in a helicopter heading to Tottenham as we speak"

    This.
Even if you're quoted an asking price, anyone with a bit of sense would come in lower than that in order to kick off negotiations. One failed bid doesn't mean we've missed out on them.
There's very little in the Connor Wickham story too. Do you think after paying 20m for Henderson we were priced out of 12m for Wickham? Wecould have paid it, but we didnt.
Also I notice you said 'reputable' and then put a link to caughtoffside...

Does anyone know anything about the Savic interest? SSN were reporting that he was having a medical at MC (he signed for them later on yesterday too), but also that we were trying to hijack it...
Seemed to just come from nowhere and thus I doubt there was any truth to it.

On a side note, the other day they were showing clips of Clichy exiting Eastlands and signing autographs/having photos with a few fans, and the reporter actually asked 'is this the biggest clue yet that Clichy will be a Man City player?' I think it's more than a bloody clue!

They really have gone downhill over the last couple of transfer windows.

    Yup it's you.

You - believing the paper hype. Since we 'overpaid' for Caroll the papers have been all over any story they can whip up about us potentially wasting money
You - wanting to believe it so it makes you feel better about your club's transfer policy
You - jumping on other forums to air your ill informed opinion
