Here are the latest offerings of Bob Peeters in the Press. Charlton manager Bob Peeters expects striker Simon Church to remain with the Addicks this month despite transfer talks with Millwall. The Wales forward has not seen much game time this season under Peeters and with the addition of former Celtic man Tony Watt, Church could fall even further down the pecking order. Peeters has admitted Millwall have been in contact with the club and agent over the availability of the 26-year-old, but the Belgian boss expects to have him in his squad for the game with Brighton on Saturday afternoon. “There was some interest there,” Peeters said. “At this moment there is a big difference between interest and him going.” “It is up to Simon whether he goes away or not, I think there was some talking between his agent and Millwall. “But he trained with us today and if everything stays like today he will be in the squad on Saturday.” New boy Watt will be in the squad too, along with top scorer Igor Vetokele as the Addicks recall a number of first team players after their FA Cup defeat against Blackburn. Church featured in that defeat to Rovers last weekend but Peeters is confident that won’t be his last game for the south east London club, and a move to rivals Millwall is unlikely now. Peeters added two new players to his squad last week but is in no rush to add further recruits. “I have said all season that if there are opportunities we will take those opportunities” Peeters said. “But at this moment we have a lot people coming back, we have a squad good enough to be competitive again. “If they all come back we might have a good enough squad.”
"We might fight them on the beaches, We may have a go at them in the skies, we might turn up and have a pop when their backs are turned" Makes you proud to be British, run by Belgiums.
The trouble is, Bob gives the impression, to me at least, that he doesn't really believe in his players, which was also the impression I got in SCP's later matches. And this creates a vicious circle with players under-performing, as we saw when Riga took over. I am struggling to think of a single player who has improved, let alone blossomed, under Bob, and a few seem to be going backwards. The excellent second-half against Cardiff shows how they are under-performing the rest of the time.
I don't think Peeters is learning from his mistakes. Take zonal marking, we have conceded so many goals from set pieces yet nothing has changed. What we need is to go back to man marking and to bring in some more players who can compete better in the air. A target man centre forward that I keep on banging on about.
RE: Zonal marking. this is a sore spot for me, we've been punished so much by using this tactic and bob doesnt seem to care. in any other subject matter, you learn from your mistakes, except zonal marking it seems? it has left me dreading going to the valley. usually i'm in the area by 1pm. today, i'm being dropped at the station at half 2. i just cant be bothered watching us fall apart in the same way each time.
Kermogant as manager? Hmmmm. As player manager, he could be an inspiration. Could'nt be worse that the current geezer.
Just read Bob's interview "Can't do anything about it" again! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob is starting to look well out of his depth, some of us predicted as much last summer given his CV. I described him at the time as having the qualifications of an "Estonian PE teacher". Brighton were tidy and well organised under Chris Hughton yesterday. They sat in two blocks of four and waited for our inevitable defensive **** up. Last week it was Fox, yesterday it was little Neil missing an easy cross. Who will be next ? No particular point in sacking Peeters just yet if RD is not spending on new players in jan, and yet another Belgian yes man non entity replaces him.
He points out that we've conceded from another set piece. Which coincides with him bringing in zonal marking. If only there were something you could do, Bob, if only there were something you could do.
Bob peeters has moved from 25/1 to 3/1 favourite to be the next championship manager to leave. That might be me putting more money on at 25, then 18, but I hope there is some inside knowledge. It will pay for my flights to watch this crap.
Dick, only positive posts please. We live in hope the club make an announcement at 10am tomorrow morning
When Bob subbed Wilson for Church I thought it was a good substitution, and it would have been if Church had played wide right, but to stick him in as another striker and then add Bikey to make up the quartet was frankly embarrassing. It's quite possible that we end up in the same situation as last year, with an emergency manager brought in late to try and save us from relegation. Man for man Brighton weren't any better than us, except the goalie, but they were a better team.
I usually am positive but watching that ****e every week has wrung every drop of positivity out of me. I feel like a limp rag.
