But if you insult someone and they punch you, what's the point of saying they used violence and you just used words. Does that make you a better person? The killings are totally out of order, but why do some feel the need to insult others?

Not many Westerners are outraged at all the civilians killed by US and British troops in places like Iraq. Those people didn't have guns. They probably just had pens and pencils as well. It's sad that it doesn't cause as much outrage as the Paris incident.

I take on board your views.

What these assassin brothers have achieved is too turn even more people against their faith. If they are under the deranged idea that there is glory in death then I suspect that soon they shall feel how painful that glory is.

It's getting boring blaming the West for all Islam's problems. Truth is Islam is being dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world and some don't like it.

I have huge degree of sympathy for your views regaring innocents being killed by UK and British troops overseas. However, those innocents are not being targeted by troops whereas the cartoonists and journalists were. If a god is so impotent that it takes murder, rape, acts of terrorism and death threats to maintain it, is it a god in any sense at all?
In any war there will be casualties whose only desire is peace. If an enemy hides behind their women and children their women and children will become casualties.
Many of the best people I know, have worked with and enjoyed the company of are muslim (men and women) so I believe these Paris murders will damage Islam far more than they will damage France a feeling better expressed by cartoonist Carlos Latuff.

Islam is incompatible with a free society. That's the problem.

It's not really, the problem is the fanatics interpretation of it added to the problem of intolerance to non muslim or non faith believers

    I mostly agree with you.

While the West weren't targeting civilians directly I don't think they gave a damn that they got killed. Never any apology issued to the dead and their families. And people locked up for years without charge. How can that be right in a civilized society.

I almost wish there was an afterlife, just so they would find out their God and their promised virgins didn't exist.

Normally I don't like to see anyone lose their life but I'll make an exception today.

As for all this talk of blaming the West I don't buy that. The values we have in the West are at loggerheads with Islam which is a religion that persecutes minorities such as gays, is openly anti-women, condones child marriage and forbids blasphemy under pain of death. It's as intolerant as you can get. Thankfully, most Muslims keep those views to themselves but there's a new breed that don't.

If only most Muslims were as enlightened as a Muslim man on TV just now who said that if people make fun of Islam or Mohammed get over it, we live in Britain not Saudi Arabia.

There are no virgins waiting even if you believe in an afterlife. An academic friend of mine tells me it's a mistranslation and is in fact 'sweet cherries' so you can understand why there was confusion lol. <laugh>

If there is an afterlife they might not get nuns but they'll be cheesed off to find a bowl of cherries. :)

Islam and their so-called holy book is Satanic to the core, they have been feasting at the table of demons for centuries, mind Christendom is not far behind, Religion is well past it's sell by date. Oh and I can tell you there is no after life, been there and back, but I did see the Swans in white............<laugh>

The virgins are there (not sure what the lades and kids get!) but like many things in Holy Books mistranslations are what give them their power - 'cherries' in one version translates as 'virgins' in another.
Islamic laws ( both main traditions) are based on the Hadith or sayings & traditions of monotheists of the Arabian Peninsula and a mish-mash of Jewish, Christian, Arab Monotheistic Arabs, Persian and even Buddhist traditions brought together by the descendants (& followers) of Muhammad of Medina - a fairly insignificant village at the time.
They are very similar to those passed down (traditionally) by Moses and so are the same basis and Jewish and Christian laws.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam - all branches of the same tree.
