It doesn't always mean he will start just because he was on press duty, Rossy for one has been on press duty but didn't start.

don't be daft - he was on the bench against Palace - he started against QPR and went off at half time because he was **** - 5 minutes later we scored - so you can stick your 4 out of 9 where the monkey keeps his nuts but why let the facts get in the way of a good story - Macca is miles ahead of Junior and so is Maguire

We need Dawson in to handle Anichibe, so for me it should be a back 4 of Elmo, Chester, Dawson, Brady. Midfield of Meyler, Huddlestone, Livermore, Quinn. Up front Jelavic & Hernandez. McG in goal, of course.

Can see us more likely to use our strengths with 3 centre backs! Elmo and Brady are not fullbacks!

Just listening the SB on RH, get the felling he will go for 442, if so he might go for Chester at right back and either Figgy or Brady at left back.

If he does I think you might see Elmo/Livermore/Huddlestone/Meyler in midfield

    Hernandez/Jelavic.

would be harsh on quinn after he outshone huddlestone against the arsenal, but the range of passing thudd possesses (even though its been muted this season as far as creating chances) will probably get him the nod

    I'd go:

    McGregor
    Chester Dawson Davies
    Elmo Livermore Huddlestone Quinn Brady
    Jelavic Hernandez

Oh, what was that again lads? His passing is ****?

Thought so. Just like usual, you can't accept Bruce Jr is playing superbly.

Surprising to read that, presumably he's been working on playing it simple instead of panicing and putting it in the stand. A while ago he'd have done well to hit 50%.

Despite that, I still don't think he's been particularly better than any of the other defenders over Christmas. I think we've got 6 good, dependable centre backs, none of whom make mistakes very often and all of whom will put their body on the line for the team when required. But people seem to go through phases of massively over-rating certain ones. In the Championship Macca was getting some ridiculous praise, and I say that as a fan of his. Lately it's Bruce and Maguire who've been decent (very good against Arsenal in the latter's case) but had their performances and ability exaggerated as a result. At the same time, the ones who've been doing it ages seem to get under-rated. Chester doesn't get the credit he deserves at times and now people have started to get used to Davies's consistent performances, and he hasn't been anywhere near as bad as has been made out.

Not sure how you got that, most people agree that our best defender overall is Chester.

See this is the kind of thing I'm referring to. There's also people who make out he's ****e whatever happens I know, but christ that's an exaggeration.

I never said he was our best defender. But as of late he's played brilliantly.

The consistent criticisms even when he plays well are ridiculous. Same for Meyler and Quinn. People always seem to being it back to nepotism too.

I've taken **** for defending Alex Bruce before now , I don't think he's ever let us down , he makes mistakes sometimes but so does every player including captain fantastic Curtis Davies

That's just crap. I'm not sure why you have an issue with Bruce? But he really is the best person for the central role in a back 3.

Also, let us not forget they need to average ATLEAST 2 goals a game in your head.

Apart from Dawson, Davies and Chester. You could also make a case for the other two.

I have nothing against him, I just completely and utterly believe that he has very little footballing ability and although defensively decent he reads the game poorly which forces him into making dramatic challenges. Dawson is the clear choice for a central player but I would play Chester and a reasonably on form Davies there ahead of him every day of the week. Despite his height Chester is an incredibly gifted defender, I honestly believe that a couple of extra inches and he'd be a top 4 player. Dawson has proved his ability for many years and Davies showed last season what he is capable of. Bruce just isn't good enough to be a starting player in the premier league, he'd be by 5th choice CB at most.
