Sky sports are reporting that we have had a 15m bid rejected for Downing. He's an ok player and I would be happy to have him at the club but do you think we should go higher (20m?) I think what we have offered is enough.
    What do you think?

£15M is my rating for the player. Personally, I don't want to pay any more than that. I think that if Villa don't want to sell for £15M, then I believe we should move on to other targets. (Mata!)

I don't want to end up paying £20M for him.

yes i think thats right.I suppose it depends how much Kenny and cammoli want to keep that British?english thread running through the team.Mata looks a real find but has said he wants to stay at Valencia, not that that means a lot.It will be interesting to see if anything transpires after we play them in a friendly. Can't understand why we are not after N'zogbia (or are we?) who for around 9m looks far better value for money. Also given the fact that manure only paid 16m for Young who is the better player.

Yeah, I suspect they will want an English core to the team but having some foreign flair would be good. I do really hope that we can get Mata. He's an excellent player and I believe would fit in nicely at Liverpool. Regarding N'Zogbia, I think he's a bit hit and miss. He can be excellent one week and do nothing the next week. He also seems to have some attitude problems. £9M would seem like a decent price for him but I suspect he might be a back-up option if we miss out on our main targets.

Probably hoping it triggers a transfer request from downing - then villa will have to decide if they want to keep an unsettled player

I will have to eat some serious humble pie after championing him so much if he flops, but i think Downing would be a superb signing.

I think he will be a threat in his own right against the lower teams (the kind of teams we struggle to dominate when we really should), and will bring out the best in his team mates against the better teams.

He's quick and works hard, so should continually provide an option for Suarez as well as stretching teams to give Luis more room. Seen some stats floating about that he made the 3rd highest number of accurate passes in the league (will suit Kenny's philosophy) and put in the 2nd most crosses (will bring out the best in Carroll), and his cross success rate was above Liverpool's average so it isn't a case of aimlessly lumping it in.

He's English, has his head screwed on, and is coming in to his prime at the point where he will now want to take his chance at the top end of the league.

There's a good chance Mata won't go anywhere this summer, so we may always be able to get him next year when Downing has helped secure us Champions League. Downing should also hit the ground running having played in the PL for years (Silva was/is a class act but it took a little while for him to settle and Man City to get the best out of him).

We would get value out of £18mil i think (and happy to throw N'Gog in), though I swear if his name was Brazilinho or nobody had watched him play in France the guy would be a God to everyone.

It's the price that is putting everyone off. There is a difference of opinion with Liverpool fans when it comes to Downing (it's the same with Adam) but we would all be happy enough for him to be signed if the money was not so steep.

Should hopefully get him for about £17-18m. A great signing in my opinion, as others has said above his work rate is great, is coming to the peak of his career, has pace, good cross, hungry and keeps himself to himself.

Would fit perfectly into our team I think.

I'd up the offer to £18m Cash or £15m + N'Gog (I read they were reportedly interested in him)

    What does that even mean?
If he can walk and jog, that's already two paces isn't it?

I'm interest to know exactly how fast you can run, because everyone is slow in your eyes.

Skyrtels Nips has convinced me! (I am easily swayed!) Sign him up!

Don't throw Ngog into the deal though it will scare them off! :)

£18m for him, then sell off Ngog, Jovanovic, Poulson and Konchesky - it'll be the equivalent of paying £17.9m for him.

I think you Lverpool Fans have become so accustomed to a Team lacking Pace, when you see anyone who is average, they look quick to you.

Stewart Downing is a good Player, proven at Premier League level and would resolve one of the positions on your weak left side.

But you are desperately in need of some pace, when is Kenny Dalglish going buy a Player who offers this most coveted of attributes in the modern game?

Oh, and me, slow as F***!

Much like the Henderson deal (although it didn't materialise in the end), if it means N'Gog goes, then I'd be happy with it!
I doubt Valencia (regarding Mata) would accept N'Gog in part exchange, so it makes sense to do business with Villa if they'll take him. Not sure many clubs would take N'Gog straight up.

Really really don't want Downing. We don't need Mr average in our team, it may as well be Nunez all over again.
