    The Team so far is:

GK : Tony Coton (over 50% of the vote)
RB : Nigel Gibbs (over 57% of the vote)
LB : Paul Robinson (over 46% of the vote)

So we move onto a centre back (position 1)

Change of plan, because I am an Ars* I made the mistake of not putting in multiple votes, I will have to run a seperate poll for your other part of the centre half pairing with the same candidates minus the winner from this poll ......

We have had lots of candidates for this, but I have gone with the following 10, I know some of you may feel that others are worthy but I think we have to stop somewhere, apologies if your favourite is left out.....

Do you remember the Terry Challis cartoon in the WO at a moment when we were in dire need of a commanding centre-back? It described the ideal candidate... grizzled, Desperate Dan type veteran, dodgy knees, Field Marshall's baton in knapsack... then along came McClelland...fitted the specification to a "T". I hope he got that framed cartoon.

Seconded, Macca was the best - he is the only player I have named on the back of my shirt. All others fade into insignificance. And he couldn't drive until years later, so anyone hanging around in Occupation Road at about 5:25 would see this anonymous bloke (late 20's) cycle off into the distance. And his bike wasn't flash - and this was the mid 80's when Luther etc had a flash import only Renault ....... err thingamy bob, I can't remember the model name ....... it'll come to me later. But you get my point.

He was a hero, and yet he was soooooo humble.

John Mclelland for me what a player he was pure class. Looked like he couldnt run then whoosh he was gone lightning quick. Read the game excellentley and we have never had the complete centre half like him again. With Tony Coton in goal that was a hell of a team. How did Ranger slet Super Mac go I will never know.

I will just run another CB Poll in without the winner in, that should make it fair, no need to comment though as all the debates & chat will have happened on this one ......

    Good stuff ET

I've gone for McLelland (or McLegend, as I call him at work)

Bolton was just a bit before my time, but Steve Terry always stood out for me - maybe it was the head band!!

I have had to go for McClelland - sheer class - my other vote has gone to Steve Sims as to me he epitomised Watford's intention to climb the league - he was the first signing that made you go "wow"

    How did you do that?
I voted for John Mac, then (despite having read of everyone else's problems with voting twice) tried to tick Ian B as well, and fired off 'vote now' just as my eyes registered that my J Mac vote had gone. So I'm down as having voted for Ian B which is fine, but would like to vote for John Mac, he is by far and away the classiest defender I have seen at the club.
Maybe the poll should be split into two positions, which of course in a 'normal' back 4 it is. No.5 and No.6 in old numbering.

Hi all, I will run another poll for the other centre half position, did not allow multiple votes and now cannot change it (my mistake) I will take out the winner in the next poll and add in someone else. .. Sorry for the confusion ! I am sure I wil get the hang of this forum by the year 2020 !!!!! ..

Well done ET. How are you planning it? I'm assuming just for this particular situation, the second poll should have the same list of names, we can all vote for our second (or in my case, first) choices, and when both polls are closed the votes from each one combined and the top two players duly selected to the All-time XI.

Cheers ET... I have no idea how to do polls, let alone multiple-vote polls, so good on you <ok>

Good idea to take out the 'winner' but also suggest you ask people to not vote for the player they have already voted for if he wasn't the winner!

I have decided after much deliberation to stick with exactly the same candidates, I ask you to vote for your alternative centre back partner from who you voted in the first poll, I will then add up the 2 highest percentages from the first and second polls and then put in the 2 highest!

I hope this is OK! Once again sorry for the confusion ...
