    Hey,

I'm from Chester-Le-Street (born in Durham) son to a Newcastle mother and a Washington father and it bugs me that I wasn't born 8miles further north.

I'm a lifelong Toon fan and season ticket holder but I'd like to think I'm not a plastic. I don't put on an accent every time I get past the Gateshead interchange trying to fit in as much "howays" and "wey aye mans" I can into a sentence, less than can be said for me mate. Me mates also a Chester lad and has that Geordie-Mackem hybrid accent we're known for but of course that disappears once we're on our way to a match. He's the kind of guy who'll constantly sing songs he doesn't know the words too (we all know that guy) and can be a bit of embarrassment really, like when he sings "you're just a small town in Durham" all the time even though he's in fact from a small town in Durham.

Just like to ask what people think are the main areas of support in the north east for each of the major clubs and if they have any of these pressure to be part of the "geordie nation" stories. Would you lads from the town call me a mackem? I am technically a wearsider after all *shudders* but I like to think that the Nile runs through Ethiopia even though Ethiopians aren't Egyptian.

Blyth is largely Newcastle fans, but has it's share of Mackems too, including my next door neighbour.

Had a lad from Blyth call me sister a mackem once (even though she's Newcastle born). Thats the type of generalisation I dont like, I just said that Blyth is no closer to Newcastle than Newcastle is to Chester-le-Street then he just left it alone, I would concede though that most south northumbrians have more of a claim to be a Geordie but this guy was a dickhead xD

I'm from Chester-le-Street aswell, we're just as close to Newcastle as Sunderland really, so it's hardly like we're really far away. I go to every home game and a few away, as I'm sure you do, so we aren't plastics.

Gateshead here and always been a TOON.

I've known people from CLS that supported us and I've known some that supported the mackems. Funny old area really. Same with Washington that is mostly mackems but we've got one (AP) that is one of our best not606'ers. A kid that sits near me at the game comes from Seaham Harbour, saves all his pennies up for his ST. Loves his football and loves the TOON.

Exactly, but you get some of these idiots who play the wear card or even south of the tyne card to the extreme.

True enough, we're not Geordies at all. My nickname says 'Geordie Dave' as that was my nickname in Boro, and it had more of a ring to it than 'Northumbrian Dave' haha.

Yep. When i was away there was some guys from Cramlington, when I told them where i was from they were cool. Yet a toon fan from London called me a mackem even though i was wearing my toon top

I'm fairly young so I wasn't at games during the early 90s but what I've been told is that it was much worse than it is today, basically if you were in the gallowgate with a dodgy accent you got a more than a few odd looks. Saying that though, me dads been going to games for years and I cant recollect him telling me about anything like that. This skyports era has played a big role considering for most non north easterners anyone north of the borough is a Geordie

Funny that, usually the ones that call someone a plastic are plastics themselves. Funny thing to fret over considering there's people in Shanghai wearing Man U tops

I know hardly any Toon fans in Guernsey. It is plastic central down here. Wall to wall Man U and Liverpool and loads of Arsenal, Spuds and Chelski. Light sprinkling of other teams.

Pretty lonely place to be a NUFC fan! :(

I would imagine Newcastle United are quite popular in Peru due to Nobby Solano.

<laugh> I also live in Chester-le-Street, was born in Durham, Geordie mam, Mackem Dad and been Toon supporter for life. Very coincidental haha
Get called a mackem by some of the lads at school who are Gateshead born and annoys the **** outta me as they act like they have more right to support them than someone who was born about 7 miles south of them.
