Page, you're totally right about two wrongs and I tried from the start to say that the whole truth doesn't belong to any one interpretation. But as long as Hash and Sisu demand that their version is the only one that is right then it will be opposed.

As for Irish jokes abouts Brits then that would be more in your provence.

The sad thing is that ill-considered comment from Sisu has taken the whole of this thread off track when there existed an apparent unanimity of views.

    My Provence?

    <laugh>

I genuinely don't know any "British jokes", we all hear jokes but I don't get what context you're putting on them, but I have never heard any relating to a million British deaths.

And of course the " spuds" quip had nothing to do with the thread going off topic eh, anyway Dave let's agree to disagree(yet again <laugh>) and move on.<ok>

The jokes or "banter" focused mainly on kicking us out of Ireland, jokes at the expense of the royal family, laughing at britains relationship with Europe etc... As opposed to structured jokes. There's plenty of things about any country to take the piss out of, whether there's any truth involved or not! My point was that when it's done in jest it can just as easily build bridges as burn them and sometimes it's best to take comments how they are meant or in the context they are used rather than by your own individual perception of a subject.

I'm sure there were some proper jokes in amongst the general banter and abuse, I remember one of the Irish guys in particular was on form and had everyone in stitches. It doesn't really matter how the jokes were structured really, the point remains the same.

Sometimes its better to take a comment how the person means it, in the context they are using it, rather than on an individual's perception of a certain subject.

That's all well and good provided the so called joke is not directly related to an individual, would someone who lost a relative in say the Birmingham bombing just laugh at a snide remark made by an Irishman about it?, I doubt it mate.

Anyway, this course of debate has run its course tbh.

I have both Chinese and Irish heritage too. If you throw in a slur about the Scots you've got my whole DNA, and I'm not the least bit offended.

I take the line of Mel Brooks - now he really could laugh at the 'tragic' history of his ancestry.

Stop that ****ing fact-based reasoning - there's a myth to be upheld here. Robert Key, an irish historian/broadcaster made all those points decades ago. Castigated in Ireland for saying it, but never actually challenged on the facts. But to do so is to 'laugh' at the Irish who starved, as opposed to ridiculing the myths that followed.

Another exaggerated myth based upon a handful of incidents when the overwhelming majority of ALL churches fed the poor of all religions:

Police in France have made seven arrests as they hunt for two named suspects over the deadly attack in Paris on staff at a satirical magazine.
The seven, thought to be associates or family of the suspects, were detained in the towns of Reims and Charleville-Mezieres, as well as in the Paris area.
Photos were released of two brothers suspected of involvement in the attack.
France is mourning the 12 people killed when Charlie Hebdo was targeted by gunmen shouting Islamist slogans.
A minute's silence will be observed at midday across the country and the bells of Notre Dame in the capital will toll.
Arrest warrants were issued for Cherif and Said Kouachi, said to be "armed and dangerous". A third suspect has surrendered.
Cherif Kouachi was sentenced in 2008 to three years in prison for belonging to a Paris-based group sending jihadist fighters to Iraq.

the third suspect seems to be some dufus from school who apparently has an alibi but his id card was found in the abandoned car.

It seems these pair had an elaborate scheme where they picked out this boy as a fall guy, but he has to have had some ties to some radicals to come to their attention. he was also near the belgian border when surrendering.

SOunds fun to pick this one apart.

I am still astounded that the media and hacks reporting are somehow shocked the police have not flushed these guys out. If they are this planned they are not running about half assed shooting at people so are laying low.

I am more wondering why the media are not wondering where the hell the arms and armour came from and why there have not been widescale searches of every suspected or watch list radicals house, aparament or place of work for more arms etc.

He's actually right if you watch it closely you can see the dust from the bullet striking the pavement....but it doesn't mean it was staged ,the cop fearing for his life could have then played "dead"
