Nah it's not that DR Says, it's as if that somehow justifies his ignorance. The worst thing is someone who talks a lot about something he knows very little. I think they say, a little information is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands?

Dave ,those Irish merchants were English and Scottish settlers then known as Irish because of the relocation. The Irish natives were forced from the land and had to deal with the corn laws, hedge schools , and being criminalised for being Catholic amongst other things.

A simple fact is the protestant soup kitchens offered families the soup if they dropped the catholic belief and converted to protestantism* the families then had to drop the o from their surnames.

Hence why in Britain you have for example john flynn or john shea etc. but in ireland they are still john o flynn or john o shea etc.

one of the biggest insults you can give someone over here is to tell him " youre family took the soup"

anyway im bored of this ... and my battery is dying.

Its nice that we all know what everyone really thinks now though

The real irony is that you (and venomous haters like you) are probably closer to the mindless fckwits that carried out today's attacks, than anyone. You haven't a clue about much of what you've posted about anything. whether it's religion or Irish history, other than what you've probably read in places that pander to your bigotry. Ignorant and abusive. Good combination.

Hash, as I said earlier the 'real' truth lies on nobody's side in this type of argument. But to answer your earlier question about the pub. To me, it would matter not if it were you or Sisu who made the comment about English history I would respond in the same way.

I've never hidden what my feelings are on the irish issue and neither have you. Where we unite is that it should never intervene in our ability to support LFC and I love that we have that ability.

Not going to wade in on this one as it looks like it's already got enough opinions!

On the whole "would you say it to him in a pub" thing though, I recently met a bunch of Irish guys traveling around Europe and one of the first things I did was make jokes about the Irish forgetting where they buried there potatoes. Throughout the night there where plenty of Irish vs British jokes made on both sides of the table. And plenty of sticking together and "we're not so different" when other Europeans tried to step in!

My point is, you don't have to choose to get really offended, particularly when it's a comment that isn't made to offend.

I doubt people "choose" to get offended. Its more of a fact that some people respect and are more interested in their history than others. It doesn't make the people who get offended sensitive or drama queens. It just means they have an appreciation of the struggles their ancestors went through and wouldn't want to disrespect them by laughing/joking at them starving to death.
