Looks like the French police have identified 3 suspects and given their names. Lets see how brave they are coming up against the french special police unit (GIGN).
Ffs. It is the terrorists fault for being Islamic extremists. Yes I can blame them for being intolerant, barbaric scumbags who won't tolerate anything but a Muslim way of life. Get off your soap box with your anti West ****e!
It is all too depressing and frightening to comprehend. I really believe that radicalised lunatics will bring about the end to Western civilisation as we know it. It seems so easy for people to be brainwashed into pure hatred in the name of their religion. I worry for my son and the world he will grow up in. At some point there will be a huge backlash against the Jihadists. The Pegida movement in Germany may be just the start.
I think that deserves a considered response Matt. From my perspective totalitarian creeds of all sorts (religious, political, 'spiritual', whatever) have to be undermined at all times by whatever means. Because it is, by its very nature, exclusive, claiming sole rights to 'truth', tolerating no dissent. In fact, if you are not a believer, you are the enemy, and in some creeds not actually human. Fortunately, even among 'believers' only a minority fall into this extremist end, but sadly even this minority can **** things up for the rest of us. You can't engage fanatics in debate, because they 'know' they are right. And of course rational debate has no place in the mumbo jumbo they believe. So clearly, forcefully and frequently challenging their beliefs sends a powerful message to those who haven't been sucked in - you don't have to believe this crap. Satire (i.e mockery) is a part of this process. The journalists who died in Paris knew the risks they were running (their offices had already been firebombed) but had the freedom to CHOOSE to continue running these risks, expressing themselves freely. A freedom that would not exist if the totalitarians who killed them had their way. Shutting up, avoiding confrontation, being scared to mock and insult just makes life easier for them. I have been very moved by the reaction in France (and London), the show of solidarity for what's left of some of the values of the democratic west. I am aware that I can come across as intolerant and unreasonable on this (bit like on Barton and Redknapp). I have no problem with individual belief of people who are prepared to discuss it reasonably, don't indoctrinate children or the vulnerable with it, and don't use it to oppress others (usually women, listening Gavin Peacock?). I don't think the people who commited the crime today (or those who helped them do it and indoctrinated them into their medieval set of beliefs in the first place) fall into that category.
Thats a great reply sb. We must always question/mock/undermine all of the ideologies of the 'creeds' because if we don't, we might be under their control, which would mean no freedom of speech. This is exactly what the terrorists want.
Cheers, I should have left it at that rather than droning on.....just wish I had the courage of those who died today instead of just mouthing off on here.
Sorry the staff of this magazine and the copper outside should have known that a mocking tounge and cheek cartoon should result in people running in there office with ak47 rifles because of a cartoon ? I'm sorry but wtf This only happens because 1. Chip on shoulder 2. Know they will have so many people saying well done son 3. The French police were so scared of the pc issue these people had zero protection As I said ..... Where does it end. ?
Oh well, whatever we all think about this thoughts must go to the family's of the victims! I hope they manage to bring the murderers to justice!
Cherif Kouachi was reportedly convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping channel fighters to Iraq's insurgency. He was jailed for 18 months. Three masked gunmen stormed the offices of Charlie Hebdo, which has previously been targeted over its portrayal of the Prophet Mohammed. from the inside out ....
They said on the news that France gets 200,000 immigrants to the Country every year, most of them Muslims from Algeria. That's a million every five years. How many does the UK get? (PS Jimbo, are you some sort of sock from the old Site?)
some of them head straight to the channel ports when they get to the uk they claim asylum I thought you had to claim it at the first safe country you got too
