Sorry, I'm not buying into the idea of more cartoonists making the same point. It's like poking a dog until it bites and then getting loads of others to do the same. Oh, and then smugly making the point that you knew it would bite back. They're defending their right to free speech? No, they're defending their right to insult people up to but not beyond the point of slander. Is the battle for free speech really about insulting people? Well that's just ****ing stupid. It would be stupid without the tragedy but it's even more so because their are families that are now suffering because of their human right to insult people. And what have they actually achieved in all this? Nothing but loss.
Have you seen what Charlie Hedbo published Matt? Well beyond the bounds of libel, scandalous and quite brilliant. So your argument is shut up, don't push people who's creed doesn't permit them to tolerate your right to believe what you want. Deliberately enforced ignorance has to be mocked, insulted, scorned and laughed at at every possible opportunity. This response just proves it even more.
What nutters, and who are the "all of them" you want to kill? And while we're at it why is Stroller a hypocrite? Sorry if I'm boring you.
They're defending their right to free speech? No, they're defending their right to insult people up to but not beyond the point of slander. Is the battle for free speech really about insulting people? So who did Lee Rigby Insult? Or all those people on that day in London 7/7. Come to think of it, the poor policemen they executed in the street.
“Religion, a mediaeval form of unreason, when combined with modern weaponry becomes a real threat to our freedoms. This religious totalitarianism has caused a deadly mutation in the heart of Islam and we see the tragic consequences in Paris today. I stand with Charlie Hebdo, as we all must, to defend the art of satire, which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity. ‘Respect for religion’ has become a code phrase meaning ‘fear of religion.’ Religions, like all other ideas, deserve criticism, satire, and, yes, our fearless disrespect.” –Salman Rushdie

So the cartoonists right to insult is more important that a religion's right to respect (with or without understanding)? The response was surprising but not completely surprising but it doesn't mean we need to over-egg every self fulfilling prophecy does it? Why does it need to be scornfully mocked? All religions have elements of self preservation but why should we go out of our way to provoke the extreme elements of it? Why not go round the deep South of America trying to provoke a similar reaction because I'm sure you could get one?
