Well john terry has yet to be offered a deal terry has yet to be offered his new deal but is willing to accept his situation

Lampard waited a long time for a new deal but got none

Sorry but what we are seeing here is too much mouthing, an unwillingness to accept actually he is 34 and if he gets a 1 year deal each summer he's lucky compared to many

And honestly probably looking at niavity from Rodgers is telling the guy how it is prior to securing him.

The thing is.... No matter what anyone says the press and pundits are deliberately ignoring the fact he is ****ing off to swan round a semi pro pitch with kaka and robbie Keane and the like rather than play real competitive football as they all want to heap the pressure on lfc. Gerrard is a worldie and a saint yet we who see it week in and week out know full well he is struggling to keep up, has looked rubber legged any time he made a surging run and can't get around. We've seen lfc try to accommodate him everywhere bar cb and in particular this year when 2 games a week came in he is unable to put the shift in.... But him and frank are worldies

Nobody wants to say hey Chelsea ain't great at the back nor hey lampard gets a few mins in a top side each week and knocks in a few that's all, nor hey actuly Gerrard's past it

I'm not even sure what point you're making, mito. You've criticised his performance for a long time now, and now you're having a go because he's decided to leave?
Why should he accept that he's "lucky" to be offered a new one year contract, when he can continue to get more game time elsewhere? We might hope that he would prefer to stay on in a reduced role, but we can't demand it of him.

Damned if he do, damned if he don't.

Not really having a go. I feel three things

    1. I'm happy he will go cos frankly this season at times it's been sad to watch. He's going and so we can remember the good times

    2. I am frankly a wee bit put out by what I view as him having a bit of a whine about it now. No need to be on about contracts at all really and saying if this or that. His reasons for going as slightly rich too given others can easily play lesser time. I suppose at least he is not saying lfc are crap and I ain't sitting watching the muck

    3. Mostly think the media at large are ignoring what is obvious since August, and what they have said while he was playing and playing badly. I think it's a good short medium and long term move. He can go, kick a ball about and lfc can try, and it's up to the club how competently or otherwise they do it, to move on.... Miss him? 7th in table means actually if we can move last him and Johnson and at least have 11 workhorses we won't do worse!

All 34 year olds on 100k need to consider themselves lucky the gravey train keeps coming

Carra cos a sweet heart 2 year deal at 90k. I'm glad he got to play the final six months and retire well but he should not have got that

    Toure got how long?

Giggs, scholes, lampard, terry... Just a few that accepted rolling 1 year

He was supposedly told his time would be managed.... Think about it the manager finally realised or admitted he's not getting the best out of him or the team and instantly it's I'm off. That's fine by me cos I'd rather he be the legend than the crock we wish would be subbed.

    1. Hopefully.
    2. Imo, footballers should just keep their gobs shut.
    3. True, we have to move on- whether next season or the one after- even if his performances were better now, he couldn't go on forever.
I wonder though, who do we have who will have the drive to try and turn a game around in the closing minutes when we are struggling?
Because someone needs to take on that role, or we'll just give in.

Saint we've hardly anyone but the reality is stevie plays about 20 mins a half so perhaps we can win more rather than hope to run games round with a different line up

Coutinhos recent form makes him our next best player but given he usually only lasts 70 mins shows our team is a lot of hopes in youth and not much substance either

I've said in past 2 years names like Martinez before he went to bayern, eriksen before he went to spurs and rakitic before he went to Barca.... We've a spent more on lesser players in each case. We needed in all cases to move fast on it, we've been beaten by Chelsea to 2 players as well

But really we need to buy 2/3 players now for the first team. It looks like summer 2015 will define it for next 3/4 years

But.... 7th is still prob where we are this year so...

Covered this on two threads... But that's his choice

Squad player in 7th isn't clearly the same as squad player at city though...

Ideally we should have games won and not be struggling in the final quarter to turn it around. Inevitably, this will happen though, and I can't see anyone at the moment who will be the leader in a scrap.

You might be right about 7th, but you know I'm incorrigibly optimistic so I'm hanging on to dreams of top 4 until it's mathematically impossible.

I for one am very disappointed in Gerrard over this whole affair. He has been making out he is the victim, where he wasn't offered contracts when he wanted, not playing every game and choosing not to stay on at the club in some capacity.
He is deluded if he thinks he is good enough to play every game and I would expect someone with his involvement in the club over his whole career to stay on and take on a different role. I don't like the guy, but Giggs has shown how it should be done.

It is a pity he doesn't want to stay as a squad player as he'd be great to have on the bench as an option.

I agree with you JK ,the attitude to expect to start every game other wise I'm off is a bit poor and delusion as you said.

Gerrard is currently on over £7m a year

LFC offered him a new deal on about £3.5m a year

Instead he is going to the MLS to get about £4m a year

How do you know they offered him £70k per week? Where's that from?

Being benched for the game in Madrid was what put the tin hat on it for him imo. I think it was deliberate an all. Rodgers wanted rid.

There was a 50% pay cut rumour for the new deal, maybe BS but seems about right and nothing else to go on

I don't think Rodgers wants him to leave - he hasn't got the bottle to drop him (drop, not rest).

To put the Real game into context - it was a game no one expected to us win or get anything out of so Rodgers put out a 'weakened' side with one eye on the Chelsea.

I do agree that probably did it for Gerrard but I wouldn't say it was deliberate by Rodgers.

And until we haven't won the Europa League <ok>

I'd actually prefer coming 5th or 6th and winning the EL just for the head-explosions from #bitters about being the first team to benefit from a CL rule change

well realistically speaking i think if we win the league cup... very hard if we assume its chelsea two legged and then tottenham but we'll give is a go... then i think having europe will drop heads and we will give up on 4th. I cannot see us being professional enough really as i just feel we are that sort of club.

I do think we could go all out for cups then. but..... we don't have the quality to win a europa when it gets down to qf stages... we just don't.... sorry.

I'd be happy as of today if I knew hand on heart we had the cash for 2/3 really good players on high wages for next season and europa football as a result of a cup win to at least keep building our coefficient up.
