So it looks like Carver is set to be the manager for our next game against Chelsea, which to be fair to our board is exactly what they said would happen! Regarding the future, it looks like that will be Carvers last game in charge as the hunt for the next manager basically starts to slow down.

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-uniteds-head-coach-job-8384393

I'm sure most of you have seen this article but in case you haven't and don't wish to open it, the point is our current (reported) shortlist sits at:

    Christopher Galtier
    Thomas Tuchel
    John Carver
    Remi Garde
    Glenn Hoddle
    Steve McClaren
    Eddie Howe
    Paul Clement

Thomas Tuchel, Remi Garde and Glenn Hoddle would be somewhat the easiest to get a hold of, with two of them currently unemployed and the third having applied for the position himself. While Tuchel has said he would not want to work until the summer, I believe if we where to wave money at him he could be tempted away from that stance.

John Carver goes without mention of course.

Christopher Galtier has flat out said he will not be leaving France until the summer, he's not interested in leaving half way through the season. For me that's his principle, he will stand by that, so I would almost say he's ruled out. Bloke wouldn't of been my choice as it is, so can't say I'm upset.

Steve McClaren however is one of the most interesting, I'm sure Derby at this stage are getting rather annoyed that good ol' Stevey has refused to deny interest in the role. Basically saying "Well... they haven't offered so I can't say." That is basically an admittance of interest. Derby however are adamant they will not get rid, something I don't think they will stand by if we offer them compensation. Derby have since the Brian Clough day's not been a club that sticks to it's guns and I don't suspect there board to do it now.

Eddie Howe is at the minute a no go for me, complete paper talk, can't see him leaving Bournemouth and can't see our board being interested at all.

Paul Clement is strange, touted by the international media to basically be the english Mourinho in waiting. Can't see it.

Anyone have there picks out of the group?

McLaren. Knows the league, a very good coach (which is what we primarily need), a decent tactician and man manager and I think hugely under-rated. If he'll come then he's my stand out choice.

I wouldn't come if I was him though, got a good job at Derby.

I'd be very happy with McLaren. He's the only known quantity and I think we need exactly what he brings. His odds keep shortening (now 2/1), whereas everyone else's odds have typically followed rumours from the likes of Twitter (Garde at 2nd fav is out to 6/1). His odds have stayed low even with the constant "denial", which when you read it just looks like a chairman saying "it's gonna cost you".

He could easily have said "I am not interested in the Newcastle job and categorically won't be going to St James Park." He hasn't - it's just been fluff about "not interested in speculation....want to finish the job here....", usual rhetoric to not burn bridges.

But is he "young" enough? Same age as Pardew.

Steve Bruce and Pulis both shown how easy it is to end the speculation, McClaren knows exactly what he's doing, he's applying pressure to the Derby board.

I wouldn't say age is what they're looking at, it's his experience in managing in Europe as a head coach.

My top 3 would be Howe, Clement and then either McClaren or Hoddle.

Of the foreign lads I'd probably go Tuchel, Garde and then Galtier.

    It will be Carver.

Howe would be fairly exciting. McClaren would be a solid appointment. Clement a little more risky, but there would be optimism that he'd at least know his stuff. Tuchel sounds promising. Garde has a good record, but at a top club in a weaker league. Galtier wouldn't look out of place in a Godfather movie but I'm unsure as to his abilities - has done ok on a shoestring though so will probably appeal to MA.

    It will be Carver...

All the markets are suggesting it's McLaren. His odds have gradually shortened whilst, more tellingly, everyone else has gone long.

Well if he appoints McClaren, at least MA hasn't taken this as another opportunity to kick the fans. That'll do pig, that'll do.

7/4, next Remi Garde at 7/1. Beginning to look certain to me. Could be wrong, but I wonder now about the meeting held between McClaren and the Derby chairman - I mean, think about it - why would you meet the chairman to "confirm your commitment"?!? Makes no sense whatsoever, does it?

On the shortlist I will take anyone but Hoddle. Carver is a **** and hopefully once a new coach comes in he will be purged with Stone.

Well, completely wrong - Mclaren's now distanced himself properly, immediately moved past 4/1 and Garde is the new Fav at 7/2.

    Fck this for a lark.

BRS when you say "purged with Stone" do you mean 'as well as Steve Stone' or do you mean he is purged by being stoned with rocks?

Ignore the markets lads, they mean absolutely **** all when it comes to football. They get the odd appointment right but mainly its like pin the tail, whilst blindfolded and being pumped by bubba, on the donkey which is 0.01mm in height and width.

How can Carver be named in the same breath as the likes of McClaren, Howe, etc. Useless coach never mind manager.

My uncles sister in law works at Krispy Creme, she has just served the brother of the 2nd cousin of a man called Dave. Dave is a certified chiropractor who has been treating a lady called Jemima, who is the 3rd cousin of a lady called Phyllis. Phyllis is a madam at a Paris whore house where a bloke named Jeffrey once had a three way with a tranny called Andrea (or Big Andy) and an asian lady named Chew Kok Long. Chew Kok Long worked in London for a short time serving afternoon tea to the elite. She once served a man called Timmy. Timmy sat behind Lee Charnley in Costa the other day and overheard his whole conversation.

Anyway I digress, its definitely Carver.

Both mate. Two of them dragged out and stoned to death would be pleasing for all. I even think Stone would go to his end with some stoicism, Carver may have some tears but I believe in the end he will man up and take his brutal execution like a man.

Has Woodman gone yet? If he hasn't he will be joining the pair for rock throwing goodness.
